This is a long shot, but I can see a surprise 100M gross for this in an "everything goes right" situation. Spielberg's the biggest name to come from this "directors making movies about their childhood" trend and I think "how the Jaws/E.T. guy got his start" is a compelling hook for casual audiences and rake in nostalgia money. Of course I'm not predicting that right now, and will likely depend on a Best Picture win, but I think there's more potential than we might think.

I think theatrical movies will be dead as a serous art form n a couple of years. Theatrical movies will survice, but as sort of a  circus, where only the visual matter. I think this will be a huge tragedy, but the real tragdy is a whole generatin of kids will not know any better, that at one tme you could make a sucessful movie that did not depend on fancy SFX or spectacle to make money.

No doubt I will be called the old man yelling at crowds for saying this, but I will accpet that insult in this case.

Just seen the trailer (first time I’ve seen anything for this, didn’t realise it was at TIFF either), it looks gorgeous, if a little cheesy/melodramatic, but it could just be the music.

Michelle Williams always delivers.
