If Eternals open to $100M be assured it will have nothing to do with Zhao winning some award or not. MCU is too big to have any impact/boost from such things.

Eh...Her win will give credibility in some circles and some publicity for the movie, but yeah the MCU is too big

Great result. Makes you wonder what it would have done in a pre-covid world. Infact, this would have been a solid result pre-covid! Starting to think that maybe GvK underperformed. Should have done 65+ over long weekend and 130+ domestically

Nah - as has been the case, one WB film creates the circumstances for the next to go higher...and so on...

GvK made MK's open possible...and MK will make their next 2 opens - the Conjuring and In The Heights - even better...

Maybe. By the time, Matrix comes , I hope things will be good enough for a 90+ OW. However, I am hearing PG-13 rating for Matrix.

Hmm, nah.

Remember more locations have continued to open since and the market has been showing signs of improvement each week.

No one can ever say that Godzilla Vs Kong underperformed. It’ll always be remembered as the first big hit of the pandemic.

I think we're all ignoring the elephant in the room here. Demon Slayer's success has proven that there is a large market for theatrically-released adult anime (as opposed to kids' shows like Pokémon) in the United States. Does this mean that American animation studios will be inspired to produce more adult-oriented animated movies that aren't comedies?

I think Sausage Party is the pioneer of this in recent years

Kids' shows earn way more

Hollywood blockbusters defeated by a silly nerd anime. Theaters are truly dead lmao.

Between this and GvK dying in the 90M, how many Ls can all of you take before giving up?

Ummm, it wasn't - Mortal Kombat, more a mid-budget opener, still defeated it for the weekend:)...
