Nomadland is a masterpiece.

I think this is a relatively easy Oscar year where I can easily got my number 1 pick without much hesitation. Sadly we won't see major sweet-sweet Oscar bump this year and this is a big blow for indie art cinema since Oscar season is generally their peak season for business.

With just 26% drop in the face of another r-rated action flick like MK, Nobody is holding great and should pass 30m in the end, making another 30m grosser for pandemic era. And the result is actually quite great considering it is not that far below from first JWs 43m

Early number show MK+DS didn't really squeezed out the holdovers and most of them are posting reasonable drop unlike those during GvK. This is really encouraging as it show the market is truly recovering and more products can co-exist.

Ya this is another good surprise this week with everybody win situation. I guess the go back to cinema momentum is building and the world of mouth about the experience is spreading to the general public.

Raya is having great drops, wom must be very good and i’m not surprised bc it’s amazing.

It's also benefitting from zero in the way of competition for family audiences: the next movie aimed at that audience is...Spirit Untamed in early June (Cruella will mostly appeal to older kids despite the Disney brand).

I don't get why Disney didn't move Cruella away from AQP. They have significant audience overlap, and the latter won't be available on streaming for 45 days. Theaters will probably prioritize AQP in PLFs (or do what they did with Raya and Chaos Walking with alternating showtimes in Dolby/IMAX)

A Quiet Place was moved up several months a few weeks before they made the announcement that Cruella and Black Widow would be doing Premier Access the same day as theaters (deals they were probably working on for a while before the announcements were made).

For funsies I did this

AoT better everywhere else except USA, India, UK and Australia.

The Manga ending and the "final" season ending with the promise of one more "final" season definitely pushed up awareness there.

I thought 'Mortal Kombat' was pretty bad and I didn't particularly care for 'Demon Slayer' but these numbers bring a lot of hope to the box office and I'm glad they are performing well. My biggest concern now is that there are no big movies until 'Spiral' but after that big movies will come starting with 'A Quiet Place 2' and 'Cruella'. Maybe they should have moved one of them a couple of weeks up

I completely agree. MK was really bad! It took me all weekend to get through it. Just finished. However, these box office numbers bode well for the future. Maybe Bond, Black Widow, F9 and Top Gun will be okay. They may be able to reach 100+ million opening weekends.

Top 10 DOM $51-52M - excellent continued growth for the BO...the Top 10 finally roughly tied the worst weekend of 2019, and we beat GVK weekend, which are both great signs...

Both WB and Funanimation have MK and DS drop 45% on sunday. which seem too harsh to me judging from other opening. Won't be surprise if final number added few hundreds thousand bucks

WW84: -41%

Marksman: -35%

T&J: -33%

Chos walking: -46%

Raya: -41%

Nobody: -30%

GvK: -44% (easter sunday where films tend to drop harsher)
