An effective glimpse at the impact of dementia that avoids easy melodrama to become something much more haunting. This is among the best performances of Anthony Hopkins' career and that's saying a lot given how many memorable performances he's given: it's a heart-wrenching and authentic portrayal of someone with the condition. Olivia Colman is also superb. It certainly isn't an easy movie to watch, but it is an essential one that will hit home for anyone who has had to care for a loved one with the disease. A-
