Golden Globes/HFPA news thread (Breaking News: It Lives!)

Recommended Posts

With so many scandals plaguing the HFPA these days and it being hard to keep up with all of them, there might as well be an individual thread for their ongoing (long overdue) Day of Reckoning.

No one is jealous of the situation you inherited with the Golden Globes. As the HFPA reaches its deadline to institute change — hiring POC members, addressing so many other issues — do you think it’s still salvageable? [Note: THR spoke with Rovnver before the HFPA board released plans for proposed changes; NBCU issued a statement supporting the outline, though it’s yet to be approved by HFPA membership.]

Well, this is my first time dealing with the Globes. I obviously knew some of the rumors. But hearing about what’s actually happening at the HFPA, it’s definitely broken. We’re coming to the end of those two months they had to do something. I hope they make real change.

Is there a scenario in which the Globes don’t air on NBC in 2022?

It’s possible. Every option is on the table.

Actually why not just combine critic choice and GG? We clearly in the age of excess supply of award shows. We don't need CC/GG/PGA/BAFTA to repeatedly telling us the nomadland will be the ultimate winner of the season.

Multiple award shows are causing the fatigue and killing the suspense during Oscar night. It is time to reform them

When even Johansson blasts the HFPA you know they're in a really bad spot.

Gotta admit it would be kinda funny if this is what finally does the Golden Globes in after decades of controversies surrounding them.

Good, we are in excess supply of award shows , hope this give more suspense to Oscar season, either in term of nomination or winner.

Also, to note that, how hard is to increase a organization's diversity? This isn't a big difficult tasks right?

it should not be that hard, especially since this group has only 90 members. There must be some hard headed folks in that organization if they cant make changes in time for the 2022 show. But oh well.

Yeah, that seems strange they canceled a year in advance. The change can't be that hard to make. Makes me think there's more behind this.

Why are they trying to cancel this award show? It's always fun
