Golden Globes/HFPA news thread (Breaking News: It Lives!)

They should just send out a press release and spare themselves even more embarrassment. Of course, one of the hallmarks of the HFPA has been their total lack of shame...

You know they would've just asked Snoop to come back and announce the winners if he hadn't fucked up half the names during the nomination press conference.

They're just going to post the results online in real time, like a critics group. Is it because a livestream would be considered a broadcast of sorts and in conflict with their NBC contract? Well...

The decision not to host an online version of the mini-Globes is actually not primarily related to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s multimillion-dollar and multi-year contract with NBC. A source at the Comcast-owned network tells us that NBC is not standing in the HFPA’s way over the livestream.

Can the HFPA find a way to fail even harder between now and Sunday? Stay tuned...

Looks like the HFPA (you know, members of the media) couldn't be bothered with actually running their own social media account for Sunday’s big event:

All the big critics groups tweet their winners in real time without trying to entertain everyone. Just say who won and what for! It's seriously not that hard. Though ultimately, the crazy tweets got Globes more publicity, so good for them? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"Which presumably tasked a 16-year-old intern who has never seen a movie."

Like, never seen a movie in their life?

I have no idea why so many people think interns run social media accounts. This isn't the late 00s, there are actually roles within companies whose entire job is to run the social media account and to get engagement.

I think they're just saying that whoever was responsible seemed particularly unaware and out of their depth, and not a top professional. That is an outdated idea, of social media management not being a "real" job, kind of like how some people are still using "millenial" to refer to teenagers. What are you gonna do?

They've been cracking down on movies about singers/performers in recent years with Bohemian Rhapsody/A Star is Born/Judy all going Drama because their musical numbers were all concert scenes while Rocketman went Musical/Comedy because its musical numbers were clearly intended to be fantasy sequences. Even with the Baz of it all, Elvis' numbers are still intended to be recreations of concerts and TV specials so more likely than not it's going Drama as well.

It could go either way but Elvis is just so campy and flashy, an argument could be made more than it could for Rhapsody or Star Is Born, I think

They're back on TV! Will the stars attend? Probably...

The network is zeroing in on an airdate of Tuesday, Jan. 10. The Globes have historically taken place on a Sunday in January, but the first Sunday in January 2023 is New Year’s Day; the second is Jan. 8, which is the last day of the NFL’s regular season, which poses a conflict with NBC Sunday Night Football; and the third is Jan. 15, on which the Critics Choice Awards have already staked their claim — hence the change to a Tuesday.
