Y8 Oscars - Early Discussion (IMPORTANT)

Hey, pals. I'm hosting the Y8 Oscars!

I wanted to discuss eligibility here so we could go into the ceremony and not have to worry about what we're doing.

 

First, we have a limited number of animated films eligible for the Oscar this year. There may be discussion of reducing the possible films 

 

Second, and this will require more elaboration: Some of our films this year have non-binary characters and performers. In this event, I would like to submit the following proposal to change the CAYOM academy awards. brining best actor and best actress (both lead and supporting) into two collective categories:

 

Option A:

BEST LEADING PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR OF ANY GENDER (5/8/10 nominees)

BEST SUPPORTING PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR OF ANY GENDER (5/8/10 nominees)

 

In other words, this would be just like how we do the Oscars for voice acting, except with maybe 8 or 10 nominees so that we don't lose coverage.

 

Alternately, we can keep it at 5 and follow a drama/comedy or musical split a la the Golden Globes.

 

Option B:

BEST LEADING PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR OF ANY GENDER IN A DRAMA

BEST SUPPORTING PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR OF ANY GENDERIN A DRAMA

BEST LEADING PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR OF ANY GENDER IN A COMEDY/MUSICAL

BEST SUPPORTING PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR OF ANY GENDERIN A COMEDY/MUSICAL

 

This could lead to an interesting diversity of films and allow players to campaign in a unique way while also not keeping the categories crammed and competitive.

as the person with the major nb awards contender this year, I really did not see an issue with keeping the current system as is and choosing where to campaign within it 🤷‍♂️
