Weekend Thread: Boss Baby & Purge 1.3M Previews

Recommended Posts

That wouldn’t be a good hold for F9 by any means, but I also don’t think it would be as catastrophic as it might seem at first glance. Even under normal circumstances, the 4th of July isn’t kind to box office when it falls on a weekend. But coming off a 4th last year where many people probably didn’t do their usual activities for the day and are thus likelier to be itching to get back to them (as opposed to “just” going to a movie, even though that activity was largely out this time last year too), I’d guess that the drops will be even harsher than in the past. I won’t be surprised if Sunday ends up being a bloodbath across the board.

I knew the midweek predictions of Purge beating Boss Baby were hokum.

Boss Baby was clearly the priority for Universal this weekend, it was able to get some of the better auditoriums, Purge was getting scraps.

Purge got plenty of theaters because of the current situation, but it was taking over the smaller houses to clear them out.

it was definitely the Producers of the trio this weekend.

Umm...the Broderick movie?

Yes.

Christmas 2005 Uni put The Producers out in theaters, but they also released Munich the same day and Kong the week before so Producers got dumped basically because Uni was too busy pushing the Spielberg and Jackson movies.

Uni pushed Boss Baby 2 HARD at the Regal cheap summer movies series (not sure if they are doing it for all of them b/c I haven't made it to Cinemark's yet)  - it must have helped for this open.

That's good news for Ron's Gone Wrong...

This shouldn't work right? or will it to some degree atleast.

Edit: IMO the momentum from falling from heights must be a lot to be cancelled by jump from chair, so shouldn't work.

Jumping off the ground - or even a chair on the ground - is nothing like jumping off a chair while you and the chair are in freefall. Because the chair isn't connected to anything, you'll be pushing the chair DOWN as much as pushing yourself up (via Newton's third law). And since you have much more mass than the chair, the force you and the chair exert on one another will speed up the chair's descent much more than it slows your own.

so if it isn't chair and say a car, that may be better?

Will be worse. You need to exert way more force because the momentum of the car will be higher due to heavier mass. It's mid-air, the only forces acting are the car's weight downwards and the corresponding one you will need to exert upward.
