Can someone explain the purpose of a vaccine pass for movie theaters when vaccinated people can carry and spread covid?

If community spread is moderate to low, proof of vaccination makes it very unlikely that someone in a theater would have COVID. Breakthrough infections are happening more simply because 80% of the country is experiencing another surge, and even then, they're still uncommon.

And also, anti-vaxxers can fuck off. They don't deserve to have the same accommodations when they're the main reason the pandemic is being prolonged in the US.

The pass is for closed spaces in general, iirc.

It's more about put pressure on people who aren't vaccinated to take a shot.

And for theaters, vaccinated people can spread the virus but it's less likely than non-vaccinated people, so more safe anyway.

THe thing though is that when people subscribe to something they have a bad habit of not cancelling it even if they don't use it much. There are definitely a portion of people who will subscribe to the streaming site because a new movie is on there. Something they likely wouldn't have done if the movie wasn't on there initially. If that person went to see the movie in the theater they would likely pay to see it once or twice and not bother with the streaming site because they already saw the movie. By subscribing to the streaming site though many of them will just keep their subscription going month after month to the point to where the studio will receive far more from them than if they only went to see it in the theaters once or twice.

They have 67m subscribers according to Google. That's far less than Disney plus who didn't have to sacrifice their theatre content to achieve it. The idea of a streaming platform should be to expand your company for more revenue, not replace existing ones. People are more likely to 'forget about their subscription' if they want to see a show on that platform that runs on for weeks (Mando), not after a 2 hour movie when it's still fresh in their minds.

Vaccinated people are dramatically less likely to contract and transmit covid

Shang Chi is far more intriguing with "What next in MCU" factor than BW was + No Disney+ PA & Sunday holiday + Ontario.

I won't be surprised with over BW but for now $70M.

I think pre-pandemic numbers for Shang Chi would be 75-85 m.

With the pandemic I think 55 m is more realistic. If they add PA then we're looking at 40 m.

The #1 reason this failed is because it was a sequel to a crap film where the hate for the original has only grown in the past five years unlike man of steel or to a lesser extent Batman v Superman ultimate edition which has aged like fine wine.

COVID and hbo max are of course secondary factors. This could have easily hit the 35 million mark or even 40 if those two factors weren’t in play. Still, it would have made less than half of the original in its opening weekend. That’s embarrassing. Such a bad idea to make a sequel to this and name it the Suicide squad rather than something more creative. The producers have massive egos and they’re going to get fired. Nothing could bring me more joy. I hope att finally steps in and tells Hamada and Emmerich they’re leaving before Christmas this year!

Just because the movie is flopping, it doesn't mean it can't be financially viable for them in the future. They may have lost money in this but they have hopefully built up some goodwill and can build from here. If a movie based on these characters opens well in the future, this movie will have helped.

Anyone else think it's possible that this opening nearly identical to Birds of Prey (despite a day-and-date launch) may mean there's just not a ton of interest in this specific corner of DC movies at this moment? And that like with Birds of Prey, they just never really came up with a marketing hook that made the movie seem new and compelling to audiences? *Everyone* I've spoken to has no idea if this is a reboot or a sequel or a whatever to a movie they didn't like in the first place.

No numbers means Suicide Squad bombed, in other news 800 people died from covid yesterday and 130,000 people got infected

Even in UK, the dip in cases that people have been touting, stop dropping in recent days.

Unvaccinated people are 3x more likely to be infected and transmit the virus, not to mention they are far more likely to be hospitalized that put stress on healthcare system.

Holy shit this thread week after week is the most annoying overreacting bullshit.

Every fucking week as soon as the numbers roll in there are 4 pages of "EVERYTHING IS MOVING!!  THEATERS ARE DEAD!!"

It's far more annoying than COVID at this point.
