It's an insult, to be honest.  You have thousands of theater owners that travel from around the country and around the world even (though not as much this year) and spend thousands of dollars to attend this.  Paramount has a captive audience and the perfect chance to give even the smallest amount of preview or marketing materials so theater owners can start to formulate their own marketing around your films.

This is all adults that mostly range from 30 years old to 70 years old, and someone from your studio leadership gave the ok and thought it would be a good idea to play a small kids movie in full that you recently pulled from theaters and have no idea if or when you will put back in theaters?

Total incompetence.

Absolutely tone-deaf and as you said, insulting. It seems like, though I'm not there, that UNIVERSAL showed the most respect to theater owners. Paramount has a really great upcoming line up and they definitely could have come out as another CinemaCon winner.

Oh well.

FWIW, she did say that day-and-date was the best of a bunch of bad choices for WW84.  She just doesn't think it should be used going forward.

Had some other choice remarks as well, so the linked article is worth a read beyond the day and date stuff.

To be fair to Paramount, unlike Paw Patrol and its concept movie, they have tried to turn Clifford into a full all ages family movie, and not just an age 3-5 one.  And to have all the folks walk out probably told Paramount pulling the movie was a good idea b/c theater owners aren't interested in specifically family-skewing movies right now.  It's also now not a surprise to have seen HT4 skipping theaters and AF2 going day and date.

Keep this in mind as more family movies come up for release in the fall...

Of everything that I saw this week, without a doubt the greatest thing by a mile was the footage and trailer for The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.

It was hilarious, original, incredible and got the largest audience response of the entire convention.  That is saying something because it is the last presentation and roughly 25% of the people had already left for the airport.

It's absolutely brilliant.

Re Top Gun" Might not be the best time for a gungho "COmbat is an exciting adventure " type of film.

Why? Isn’t escapism exactly what people need from movies right now

dudalb is referring to the withdraw from Afghanistan (and probably more specifically the attack that occurred yesterday).

My response is that this will likely not be a Front Page Story anymore by November.

NB:  I would also probably add that because I actually had to clarify/explain what dudalb was referring to means it isn't much of a concern now as well.
