3 days vs 4? Didn’t Venom open on Thursday in Russia and fall on Friday? Spectre’s opening was a 7 day gross, so obviously not.

In your UK vs US examples you’re including local films. 10 x has generally been used as a guide in UK vs US opening. It’s an expectation, not an exact science. It wasn’t a randomly assigned number by someone on this forum, it’s been used in UK box office articles for years in newspapers here.

We’ll see what numbers the trades and Internet articles focus on this Sunday to settle which is most exciting/interesting :). Bond’s UK opening or Venom 2’s eh… Russia number.

Let's put it this way, Shang Chi was previously the UK's biggest opener of 2021 with £5.8m. Even if we take away Bond's opening Thursday gross, it's 3day weekend is likely to tripple it. Venom hasn't caused a significant increase in theatre interest as much as Bond has here. It would be like Venom almost matching Shang Chi's OW on a Thursday in the US

Nice for Venom, should lead to an $80m-$85m OW as Venom skews more diverse. Hoping for a $90m OW. There’s a really good chance it can have the second biggest OW and the second biggest film domestically of 2021.

Shang Chi could still finish with 230-235M

Venom original multiplier was 2.65x, this sequel not only needs around 90M OW but also same or better legs then the first to outgross SC, i doubt this will happen.

And also i really doubt Venom will gross more than NWH and Eternals. From my pov, it could end in 4th place on 2021 domestic grosses, which is still great. More impressive, the whole top 5 could be comic book movies, this movies are truly saving theaters.

Theaters are back!

Time to page @Plain Old Tele

Til next weekend's disappointment:)...

Just like Shang Chi didn't presage any good Sept business (other than itself), we can't say Venom will help others in October, especially if its 2 co-openers disappoint...

We need to see multiple movies in multiple genres with multiple draws go big, not just (supers) movies which are skewing male, young, and diverse...

I was out of that club, but now i think it will happen. NTTd will be no competition for Venom

I think problem with Sep was that nothing good followed SC but V2 is followed by NTTD, and then Dune will do well in its niche.

This doesn't make much sense, what else was released in September beyond Warner smaller movies with day and date?

Now we have Venom smashing, NTTD next weekend and presales are very decent, Dune coming and it's doing very good numbers overseas so can surprise and do 35M or so, then we have Eternals which have an gigantic hype for an ""original"" movie, Ghostbusters with a solid fanbase and apparently the movie is a crowdpleaser, and then of course Matrix and NWH.

From now on we're not getting a month with just 1 movie like September
