One other good thing about this strike would be if Matrix gets postponed and then its no more direct to HBO Max release unless that is already put in contract instead of just by release date.

i may be wrong but based on what i read, it seems that the movies that will actually be affected will be the ones that are filming right now, so the rest of 2021 slate is probably safe as only vfx work is left probably and (unfortunately) vfx artist arent part of IATSE

@WrathOfHan did post movies that are still in post and so will be affected for sure. But we will know for sure once the strike starts.

But the VFX are edited into the movies by VFX editors, who *are* in IATSE. (Not to mention the sound editors and mixers, etc).

Not exactly. Most movies which aren't picture locked and rated by the MPAA still have work to be done. Most movies don't have a final picture lock till literally hours before the premiere nowadays.

If the strike happens, the most immediate effect will be on the late night shows. Will be interesting to see what the networks do on Monday for the late night shows. Will Jimmy Fallon film himself on a cellphone and talk to a guest over zoom?

I assume they’ll put on re-runs until they figure things out. Even if they get Fallon to do something over zoom, someone has to be operating the equipment that puts it on the air (not to mention controlling commercial breaks, running the spots, etc).

Also Disney, HBO right? Since they have 20M+ subs.

Meal breaks? Why is this an issue at all in today's age. Like duh you need a meal break once in 8 hour work shift at least. That's bad if studios aren't giving meal breaks, and sorta hard to believe.

Turn around issue seems bad. More than meal break.

But all of these issues seems like shouldn't exist in first place. Will like to hear studio side of things too now because it couldn't be THAT bad.

Studios don’t care about fairness or respect towards their employees. Those capitalist executive pigs who work at the top would gladly let the little people work themselves to death while they rake in all the profits. Why else would I parrot that capitalism will kill us faster than Corona will?

studios dont have the power here, they are the ones who are wrong and the fact that we are not in pre pandemic levels yet means more power to IATSE even if the strike comes to pass i cant imagine it lasting for more than 1/2 weeks (thats still a decent amount of time mind you) , studios cant afford it

They should be prepared for this by now, considering the last year and a half...they've kind of done this already.

Anyway, most of the current late-night guys are no big loss to me...and if some stuff doesn't come out for a while, there's also nothing to promote...

there is no reality here where studios can get away with victory or more favorable negotiations , IATSE wont budge and GOOD FOR THEM , one way or the other ,the studios will have to cave on this one the only question is if its gonna happen the easy way or the hard way.I hope for the shake of all people involved in this that they chose the easy way

Its not that simple. Some of the big studios like Apple/Netflix etc wont mind this last a while so that some studios fold and they can buy content for cheap. I doubt even Disney would want to budge. Worry is this will have huge ramifications for 2023 contracts(is that with writers and directors?). Yielding too much here means studios will lose even more over there.

I could see this last for a while while both sides will wait for other side to blink.

Well my entire state here in India is fighting against capitalism in agriculture sector, so don't need any disagreeing from me at least.

I hate the alternatives even more. Communism or Socialism does not work as well. I support a movement for Conscious Capitalism. Its not just about one stakeholder(Shareholders). You have to look at every one(Employees, Customers, Partners, Environment etc). So many companies are adopting it. Its just not there in Hollywood now.

It's not just movies, though. These studios also need a constant production schedule for their streaming shows and this strike could hurt them in trying to grow their services. I'm hoping they realize this and that cooler heads give their workers what they want (and deserve).

Won't Netflix and Apple also be negatively affected by the strike if a deal isn't met?
