When we look at NTTD, it dropped 22% on the weekend but the monday week-to-week drop was 38%. So it seems it's less a movie specific factor and more like this week's weekdays just seem to do worse relative to the weekend compared to the week before, for all movies, due to "market conditions".

Correct. Its also an indication of the staffing shortages that @EmpireCity has talked about. Less shows on the weekdays overall will make the weekdays seem worse than usual.

So basically the answer to "do they matter for box office" is not really? Or in superhero genre there is a huge difference between B, B+, A-?

The people being polled for Cinemascore are diehards who rushed out to see the movie on opening night. They tend to over grade the movie so almost all well received superhero movies get an A grade.

Of course last time Veteran's day fell on a thursday was 2009 when BO was different.

It’s so funny how the most recent matching calendar configuration was a full 12 years ago. We’ll have a much more recent one starting in March for 2022.

Last time was 2010. There's a pattern for how the calendar repeats, but it's extremely nerdy.

A 28 year cycle implied by the lcm of 7 days per week and leap year per 4 years... Except when you go outside the bounds of (1900,2100) and that "100 years not a leap year" thing throws you off 🤣

So technically a 2800 year cycle, but that's a little more unwieldy.

Paramount’s Clifford the Big Red Dog, which is taking advantage of the Veterans Day holiday, filed second place on its opening day yesterday with $2.3M, which includes previews.

Disney’s Eternals posted a $4.3M Wednesday in first place. The pic’s weekday grosses have had solid holds to date with Monday earning $4.2M and Tuesday $5.25M. The running total through six days for the Chloe Zhao directed feature is $85.1M. The MCU title is expected to be down -60% to -65% in weekend 2 from its $71.3M opening with $25M-$28.5M.

Continuing Eric's article. If these are the final actuals for Wed, Dune, NTTD & Venom had good holds.

The rest of Wednesday’s top 5 includes Warner Bros/Legendary’s Dune with $830K, +4% from Tuesday, for a running total of $86.3M at 3,546 theaters.

Fourth is MGM/UAR’s No Time to Die with $662K, even with Tuesday, and a running total of $144.8M at 3,007 theaters.

Fifth belongs to Sony’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage at 2,640 sites, with a $377K Wednesday, +14%, for a running total of $197.9M.

Courtesy of @keysersoze123 & @Liiviig 1998 reminding of the nature of Veteran's Day week, this week will be an uncertain and abnormal run with some twists, so buckle up everyone.

Hmmmmm, Clifford could do mid-teens with that number no? I always struggle with mid-week openers, especially for kids movies.

Today being a day off for schools means that it'll behave like a Friday or Saturday. Expect a nice increase.

I actually just looked at the sales for Clifford around here and the afternoon shows are nearly selling out in some of the biggest auditoriums (it switches with Eternals for more medium-sized ones at night). Yeah, no way it's not increasing at least 100% today, most likely more than that.
