Starting to get the feeling that this is going to underperform big time. Could very likely see a world where Dog outperforms this.

It's giving Bridget Jones's Baby vibes, another untimely second sequel following an underperforming first follow-up to a surprise hit from several years earlier. A similar drop there brings this to a $40M total, which, given how cheap these movies are, would still guarantee a nice profit for something that was once destined for streaming.

In that scenario, its looking to do the same where it performs well in the UK then, even got some PLF screens 😅

It's weird that WB would put this little effort into marketing and distribution when they went out of their way to move it from streaming to theatrical. Like, if it's not a priority or you can barely afford to promote it, why even bother in the first place. Either you think you have something or you don't.

The embargo for this has ended and the reaction so far is looking very "not great, Bob." Sort of checks out now why this was originally headed to streaming (and why it's being released without much fanfare in theaters).

The fanfare is something that they are contractually forced to do. These movies can't have too much of a wide release.

The reviews are weak but Soderbergh said the test screenings went great and Chaning still holds immense draw power.

I also just want this to hit #1 since it's Soderbergh's first theatrical since Unsane in 2018.

His #1s:

2011: Contagion- 22.4m

2007: Ocean's 13- 36.1m

2004: Ocean's 12- 39.1m

2001: Ocean's 11- 38.1m

2000: Erin Brokovich- 28.1m

Like I said. If Fluffy was in here, it would have been a whole different story.

Hooey!

Spoiler

The reason this is now hovering around the Fresh line (when it appeared to be headed for a 40% area yesterday) can be entirely attributed to this being blessed with the Bomer seal of approval after all (albeit via apparently uncredited cameos by the Kings of Tampa through Zoom). Doubt BCoop's Bernstein biopic being good at your own peril.

It's so funny that all of these major companies are in dire straights after chasing the not-so-golden streaming goose.

Props to Sony for being smart enough to realize it wasn’t worth chasing. WB really got screwed up from this.

So will this still have a strong PTA despite the lame distribution treatment it's getting from WB? Anecdotally, people around me are all in for this. There's interest for sure.

Can't speak for everywhere else but sales are looking extremely impressive here in Florida (with several theaters having it on 3-4 screens by the end of the night), at least for Friday (the multiplex I'm seeing it at this weekend has sold relatively little on Saturday in comparison). They're likely gonna use a potential robust PTA as the positive headline for the weekend to cancel out any negative ones re: the obviously diminishing franchise returns.
