Not sure why today's sales were so bad (I guess Omicron?), but we can only hope this is just an outlier rather than a trend.

The first quarter of 2022 has definitely taken a bit of a potential blow this week between Morbius being delayed again and Turning Red pivoting to a D+ exclusive. Looks like The Batman is gonna be pretty much carrying March all by itself now since the other most high-profile movies of the month are Downton Abbey 2 and The Lost City unless something from April moves up.

April doesn't look that bad, assuming it sticks as it currently is.

1: Morbius, Easter Sunday, The Contractor

8: Sonic 2, Ambulance

15: Beasts 3, Thirteen Lives

22: The Bad Guys, The Northman, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

29: 65

Majority of these titles sound like they have a relatively low ceiling to begin with and the heavy hitters - Morbius (who knows how this will turn out), Sonic 2 (live-action/CGI hybrid sequels typically see substantial decreases), and Beasts 3 (reeks of Dark Phoenix 2.0) - aren't entirely sure things. Personally I'd move either The Bad Guys or Sonic up to March 11 now since either of them would co-exist with Batman just fine but that's not up to me.

Scream, counted today at 9am EST for Thursday, Jan 13 (5 days to go):

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 82 (2 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 96 (2 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 27 (1 showtime)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 7 (1 showtime)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 50 (2 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16):
133 (3 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 423 (9 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 818 (+97 seats).

Up 13.5% since Thursday.
Comps: The Forever Purge (12.6M OW) had on Thursday for Thursday (= 0 days left) 241 sold tickets,
Halloween Kills (49.4M OW) had on Monday of its release week (= Scream has 2 days left to increase the lead) 591 (not 595) sold tickets for Thursday

and AQP II (47.5M OW) had also on Monday of its release week 747 sold tickets for Thursday.

Scream, counted today at 9am EST for Friday, Jan 14 (6 days to go):

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 110 (5 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 68 (5 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 20 (2 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 4 (1 showtime)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 21 (3 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16):
91 (8 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 141 (4 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 455 (+ 92 seats).

Up 25% since Thursday.
Comps: Halloween Kills had on Monday of its relase week 750 sold tickets for Friday
and The Conjuring 3 (24.1M OW) had also on Monday of its release week 641 sold tickets for Friday (Conjuring 3 could be an a bit unfair comparison because it had no Thursday shows = no possibility to choose between Thursday and Friday and therefore maybe its Friday presales looked better back then).
I guess Scream will have around 600 sold tickets on Monday.

Its Thursday presales now reached more than 50% of the final sales of AQP II, good.
It's at the moment at a really nice level compared to the other films mentioned above but I still worry about its jumps next week. Without any specific reason of course because with the surprisingly good first reactions and almost no competition, it should work.

yup. It’s the first insight we’ve got that the latest quarter sub numbers for Disney+ sure ain’t that great in terms of growth.

Embarrassing decision. Feel so sorry for all those that work for Pixar.

IGER 2024 no joke please

Sonic has some teen/young adult appeal so I wouldn't put it close to The Batman. The Bad Guys NEEDS to move to March 11.

Lost City is a 25-30M opener that now will be a 10M opener, and fuck if I know how much Downtow Abbey 2 can do, maybe 7M OW I guess. These kind of movies need to start doing well and they need to start doing it fast. All months with tentpoles every weekend is impossible.

Also, moving Sonic a whole month early would require them to pretty much kill the VFX teams which are already in tight turnarounds.

I wouldn’t move Sonic either. I’d probably move The Bad Guys to either March 11 or March 25 now.

Move Morbius to March 25th

leave Sonic where it is.

move Fantastic Beasts to April 22nd

Each film keeps their PLF’s for at least 2 weeks.

Easter is April 17, so the 2 biggest K-12 Spring Break weeks (and the family get together weekend) surround Apr 15-17 weekend...so FB3 won't give that date up...

I think The Lost City is supposed to be getting PLFs last weekend of March.

AQP II (47.5M OW) had also on Monday of its release week 747 sold tickets for Thursday

and It 2 (91.0M OW) had on the same day 2.008 sold tickets for Thursday.

Scream, counted today at 11am EST for Friday, Jan 14 (4 days to go):

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 133 (5 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 97 (5 showtimes)

Comps (all counted on Monday for Friday): Halloween Kills had 750 sold tickets for Friday,

The Conjuring 3 (24.1M OW) had 641 sold tickets
and It 2 had 2.404 sold tickets.

Very good presales for Thursday, decent ones for Friday but only ok jumps. I still don't think this is cut and dried. OTOH if I wouldn't have looked at it till today I would have been pleasantly surprised because overall the numbers are good.

Belle had today with shows in 4 of my 7 theaters 13 sold tickets for Thursday and 25 for Friday. Genre-wise not the best comps but The Card Counter had 23 sold tickets in 3 theaters on Monday for Friday and Belfast had 5 sold tickets in 2 theaters.
