Poland Box Office | Avatar: The Way of Water is HUGE

Recommended Posts

Polish film Jesteś Bogiem got 373 796 admissions this weekend, which is third best opening result among Polish films in last 20 years.

It's also the best opening this year, surpassing Madagascar 3 (332 148). Animation had a 3D advantage though, so it will be a close between films in terms of $ opening weekend gross. OTOH, the exchange rates are now far better than in August.

Have to waint until Twilight Saga:BD part II and the Hobbitt to see foreign films making money in Polish cinemas.

POLAND bowed with $2.5, more than tripling the opening weekend of Casino and besting Quantum by 67%.

omfg, if that's true Skyfall opened with the biggest number of the year so far, both in cash and admissions.

Many shows were sold out this wknd, but I never thought it'd be so big.

Silent Hill: Revelation 3D took 1 093 158 zł from the cinemas and had 49 528 admissions.

That gives it a best opening for a horror film.

Meanwhile Asterix and Obelix had 109 509 admissions this weekend. That's a better opening than Mission Cleopatre in 2002.

No actuals for Skyfall yet. If the somewhat close to the estimates(5,7 mil $, )then it would mean that the Bond would have already had around 1 mil in admissions.

BD 2 sets a record opening not only for its franchise but also establishes the best opening result this year with 420 000 admissions.

That's over 90 000 more that BD 1 opening weekend in 2011. Surprisingly that's more than DH 2 scored in its opening weekend last year.

I would say between $2,3-2,6 mln.Thing is that exchange rate between PLN and $ changes very often throughout weeks. When Skyfall opened with 30 000 admissions less than BD2 it still scored 2,5 mln, but then the rate was 1$=3,16 PLN.Yesterday's rate stood at 1$=3,3 PLN. Friday's or Saturday's rate could be used though, which were different. So it's really hard to say. BD2 number might either be over or under Skyfall.

It's ok :) I didn't expect a Polish movie at the first rank.

Despite its official gross the first three polish movies aren't considered to be eligibled for their spots in the top 10.Released in the late 90-ies most of their viewers were kids and teenagres. To see these movies was kind of compulsory for school trips to cinemas, because they're based on historical novels.

I see.Given the growth of this market I guess more Hollywood movies will enter the top :)

How many admissions the previous years in Poland? In order to see the evolution of the market, given its high economic growth I guess it's a fast-growing market but I would like to be sure about it.

Sorry to write back after a couple of days, but I've been so busy lately and barely had spare time for myself.Anyway, I can't find the accurate data, guess I'd need to dig in the archives of some polish websites, cuz I'm pretty much sure I came across some info about the annual box office results some time ago. Can't find the site now, though. But as far as I'm concerned the number were sth like that:2011 had around 38,5 million admissions, with this year being thought to end up with over 40 million. The date to date comparision between 2011 and 2012 shows this year has a higher pace. The 2010 had around 39( mainly due to Avatar) and 2009 was sth like 37. Edited by Ajde
