Pypa94
Summary of 2018 in Poland Box Office. It was a record year!!! Tickets sold: 59,713 million. Such a large increase in the audience (almost 3 million tickets more, +5,3%) was possible mainly due to the excellent attitude of the films in the fall because after the first half of the year the loss in relation to 2017 amounted to almost one and a half million tickets. The main participant of this state of affairs was "Kler" (eng. Priesthood), which unexpectedly became a huge hit. "Kler" recorded the highest opening in the history of the Polish Box Office and the third best final result after 1989 (in the lead "Ogniem i Mieczem" followed by "Pan Tadeusz"), as well as top in the 21st century. Perhaps attributing everything to Smarzowski's film is somewhat exaggerated. It should be noted, however, that expectations for "Kler" oscillated around 1.5 - 2 million viewers (if it really finished with such a result, there won't be a record year). The list of records of "Kler" looks as follows: the best opening weekend for home production and among all films, the best second weekend ever, the best third weekend in history, the best fourth weekend ever, the second best fifth weekend ever, the second best sixth weekend ever, the best opening in 2018, the best weekdays in history, 796 943 viewers, the best opening of September, the best autumn opening, the fastest collected 1 million viewers - 4 days, the fastest collected 2 million viewers - 9 days, the fastest collected 3 million viewers - 14 days, the fastest collected 3.5 million viewers - 17 days, the fastest collected 4 million viewers - 23 days, the fastest collected 4.5 million viewers - 31 days, the only movie over 4 million viewers after 1989, which is not a screening of set book and does not rely on school trips. The dominance of Polish movies is noteworthy. The first four positions were taken up by native titles. In addition to "Kler", the last film by Patryk Vega, "Kobiety Mafii" (eng. The Mob's Women) and the second part of the "Planeta Singli" (eng. Planet of the Singles), which as a series has lost some popularity. A surprise is the very high - fourth place of "Squadron 303", which achieved its result largely thanks to the support of schools. There are nine Polish films in the first 20. In total, almost 20 million viewers chose Polish productions, which is as much as 33% of the general audience. This is a phenomenal achievement! The phenomenon is also the Polish film "Zimna Wojna" (eng. Cold War) [nominated to the Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film, Best Cinematography and Best Director], which after the start in June is still collecting a significant sum of spectators and is fighting for exceeding the ceiling of a million tickets sold. It is an 8th Polish film from 2018 with a million viewers on the account. It's also a record. There are 16 films with a million in total, 8 of them are foreign productions. Among them, three are animations. All "The Incredibles 2", "Hotel Transylvania 3" and "Grinch" appeared in the second half of the year. The first half-year for the animation was not very happy, because no title approached a million. The animations gathered the largest audience in our cinemas, around 10 million viewers, which is 16.8% of the total attendance. Over a million have also collected two musicals/music videos. The huge success of "Bohemian Rhapsody" was a big surprise. The very opening of 162k spectators was impressive. The film is still played in cinemas and gathered after the last weekend 1.4 million viewers (the table is up to February 3). The fact that Poles love ABBA band and their music became convinced already in 2008 when the musical "Mamma Mia" gathered over a million viewers. It was also possible to continue after 10 years. "Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again" also overcame this ceiling, although he lost over 100k viewers to his predecessor. An amazing surprise was another million in the list below. We are talking about the movie "Wonder", who after a very inconspicuous start at the level of 63k viewers, managed to collect nearly 1.4 million. We have been excited about these results for many weeks, when the family film gained, or gathered, kept its audience at the same level from weekend to weekend. This achievement allowed him to be on the list higher than the "Fifty Shades Freed", which competed at a similar date with almost seven times better opening. The last film with a million is a real breakthrough for comic movies in Poland. "Avengers: Infinity War" became the first movie of the superhero comic that broke the barrier. Comicbook movies had a good year, because "Deadpool 2" with its 841k became the second best movie of this genre. "Aquaman", which appeared before Christmas gained 760k viewers and becoming the fourth most popular superhero movie in the history of the Polish box office. The audience of these films, which also include "Black Panther", "Venom", "Ant-Man and the Wasp" and "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse", in last year was about 4.5 million viewers. This is of course a record achievement and represents 7.5% of the annual audience. 2018 is also a record year for horror films, a genre that has existed for years, with a few exceptions in his niche, but he has been gathering a permanent audience. The latest film from the universe built around the "The Conjuring" of 2013, which is "The Nun", managed to get closer to the barrier of 800k. viewers. It is worth mentioning that he beat the result of the movie "It", which only a year earlier gathered the highest audience for the horror movie, taking the priority palm "Annabelle: Creation", which was displayed only a month earlier. This clearly shows that horrors are on the top and still growing. Behind the record annual audience, of course, went to the biggest revenue in the box office. The revenue was PLN 1 billion 123.3 million. There were also the most movie debuts, their number was 384. That gives 7.38 films a week. Only 103 films exceeded 100k (-13 less than in 2017). It also shows a record number of films with a million viewers. Perhaps viewers prefer to watch the same movie again, rather than go for a product of dubious quality. The list of films that have gathered over 100k viewers will be updated in our pages. The condition on February 3 looks like this: How to read a table? 1st column - SPOT 2nd column - Polish title (I will rewrite top 10 and a place of some "big" movies outside top 10) 3rd column - attendance overall (100tys. = 100k; mln=million) 4th column - OW attendance 5th column - distributor 6th column - premiere TOP 10 BOX OFFICE 2018 1. Kler (local) 2. Kobiety Mafii (local) 3. Planeta Singli 2 (local) 4. Dywizjon 303 (local) 5. The Incredibles 2 6. Bohemian Rapsody 7. Wonder 8. Fifty Shades Freed 9. Grinch 10. Pypa94
The best March weekend in history, four films over 100,000 viewers. Summary of the weekend 8-10.03.2019 The premieres played a major role this week. The first place, with the second best result for the film from the MCU, was taken by "Captain Marvel". Over the weekend, 245,993 spectators watched it, 268 386 spectators including pre-screenings. The best openings of MCU films in Poland: Avengers: Infinity War - 271 279 Captain Marvel - 245 993 Avengers: Age of Ultron - 213 938 Iron Man 3 - 201 733 Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - 191 309 The first ever March weekend above 1 million tickets sold. The result of 1 018 325 spectators allowed to occupy the 14th place among the best weekends in history. It was the fifth time in this year with the seven-digit weekend and after just 10 weeks the record from the previous year was beaten, when four such weekends were recorded. A year ago, only 677,176 spectators went to theaters on the first Sunday shopping ban. At that time, it was feared that closed stores in galleries would cause viewers to fall in cinemas near galleries. It turns out that it has been quite the opposite and the cinema is now a permanent Sunday for many people or entire families - especially when there is no weather. Here's a breakdown of all weekends with over million sold tickets (in bold are 2019 weekends): 1. 2018 - 28/09 - 30/09 - OW of the "Kler" - 1 381 889 viewers 2. 2015 - 13/02 - 15/02 - OW of the "Fifty Shades of Gray" - 1,328,663 viewers 3. 2016 - 12/02 - 14/02 - OW of the "Deadpool" - 1 310 093 viewers 4. 2018 - 05/10 - 07/10 - OW of the "Venom" - 1,268,175 viewers 5. 2016 - 11/11 - 13/11 - OW of the "Pitbull. Niebezpieczne kobiety" - 1 261 245 viewers 6. 2018 - 12/10 - 14/10 - OW of the "Hotel Transylvania 3" - 1 255 376 viewers 7. 2019 - 15/02 - 17/02 - OW of the "How to Train Your Dragon 3" - 1 247 203 viewers 8. 2019 - 25/01 - 27/01 - OW of the "Miszmasz, czyli Kogel-Mogel 3" - 1 149 561 viewers 9. 2017 - 10/02 - 12/02 - OW of the "Fifty Shades Darker" - 1 137 342 viewers 10. 2011 - 11/11 - 13/11 - OW of the "Listy do M." - 1 123 785 viewers 11. 2018 - 23/02 - 25/02 - OW of the "Kobiety Mafii" - 1 101 346 viewers 12. 2019 - 08/02 - 10/02 - OW of the "Planeta Singli 3" - 1 062 533 viewers 13. 2017 - 10/11 - 12/11 - OW of the "Listy do M. 3" - 1 061 518 viewers 14. 2019 - 08/03 - 10/03 - OW of the "Captain Marvel" - 1 018 325 viewers 15. 2019 - 22/02 - 24/02 - OW of the "Kobiety Mafii 2" - 1 014 370 viewers 16. 2014 - 26/12 - 28/12 - OW of the "Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" - 1 014 145 viewers 17. 2015 - 13/11 - 15/11 - OW of the "Listy do M.2" - 1 011 617 viewers 18. 2017 - 29/09 - 01/10 - OW of the "Botoks" - 1,000,000 viewers The Polish romantic "Całe szczęście" comedy was in second place. Fortunately, it didn't overcome the Marvel movie despite a lot more copies. The result 183 897 (over 194k with previews) can be considered a success because it is better than last year's premiere prepared for the Women's Day - "Kobieta sukcesu" (164k with previews). The third premiere, the French animation "Minuscule - Les mandibules du bout du monde" (debuted on 7th place), was watched by 46 263 viewers. This is a better result by 10 000 from the result reached by the "Minuscule - La vallée des fourmis perdues" in 2014. Older films, as expected, recorded small drops (with the exception of Kobiety Mafii 2 (3rd place)- 45%) and two films for children "The Queen's Corgi" (4th place) and "Mia et le lion blanc" (10th place) increased in the number of viewers. This was mainly due to group sessions on the occasion of Women's Day, which many schools chose on Friday. The animation "How to Train Your Dragon 3" (5th this weekend) can be proud to become a million viewers movie. This is the third overall, but the first foreign premiere who managed to reach the ceiling of a million tickets sold. The Oscars of "Green Book" (6th place) are still doing well. The result of the fifth weekend is only worse by less than 20% from what the movie recorded on the weekend premiere! source: http://boxoffice-bozg.pl/ Edited March 16, 2019 by Pypa94 4

Well according to a source I based on with numbers lately, back in 1994 The Lion King was viewed by 2 923 938 which was the 4th place among all movies from 1990 to the 1999 year (the first decade after political changes - cinemas were taken by private companies, tickets were more expensive etc.). Since then it dropped to 13th place (only couple thousand less than Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and 3rd best in animation (only behind Shrek 2 and 3) and along with Jurassic Park, two oldest movies in top 20. To sum up I think it could be as big as 1994's movie or even 3 million movie (which would be big - only 10 movies after the 1989 year managed to do that), close to the premiere we will see if it has any chance to overperform even more though. Although nowadays first success it will be to pass 1 million 2 million should be enough to be in the top 3 of the year. BatB (OW 230 800 / cume 1 031 181) was a success here, TBJ (OW 95 601 / cume: 525 266) was not so great though. PS. Personally, I hope for at least 3 million although I dream about beating Shrek 2 (3 395 226). Or over Avatar (3 677 893) 😜 Avatar is on 5th all time (1st foreign) 1

My club relies heavily on Asian markets to pull it past Titanic, but I need the legacy markets like Europe to come through as well
