Wait, did Matrix drop 63% on a holiday. Wtf? Forget No Way Home, this is the most astounding performance of the holidays.

It’s surreal that it would take SM: NWH around almost two weeks to become the highest grossing Spider-Man film WW, beating out FFH that made $1.1B WW in it’s entire run til the end.

And the first time since the first Sam Raimi Spider-Man film to do over $400M+ DOM. Took almost 20 years to do so.

Excellent holds for Spider-Man and Sing aren't much of a surprise since they're both family-heavy titles and we're officially in the portion of the holidays where everyone has time off to see movies on any day they like. Expect similarly strong grosses between now and Sunday.

Matrix needed a normal market and a normal weekend in order to pull a big OW before the WOM kicked in and destroyed its legs. As is, WOM kicked in and people either are not watching it or are watching at home.

Theaters near me that have been showing Matrix on IMAX/PLF formats have been scrubbing showtimes that sold nothing to make way for more Spidey and even (during the early parts of the day) Sing showings. Wild to think that it's barely gonna make more than the HBO Max/pandemic/major theater shutdown-affected performance of Wonder Woman 1984 last Christmas.
