There's been a long gap from the previous film, and the franchise isn't as popular as it once was. Plus, there is still a lingering concern about the pandemic among families. Minions2 opened to $5.44m vs $5.88m of the first one in australia, so down only 7.5% from the first one. M2 first week: $9.43m vs $7.34m up 29% from the first one, however Minions2 got released one week later to I think schools are out this week in australia so that explains the much better weekdays.
