When Minions 1 released in China in Sep 2015 I think it was also pirated..

around $90-100m is safe,heading for $110m+

will put Minions WW gross over DS:MOM as 3rd Highest grossing film of the year

I am not sure why you are bringing that NWH Digital call off as an possible sign that Minions 2 might have the same fate.

 

Even, if I remember the last film to back off theatrically was Nomadland back in April 2021. Talking about MCU, Black Widow was the last film to get a date, which they eventually lost after delaying it WW ..

According to Comscore Movies Peru, “Minions 2” left Thor’s story behind and has once again positioned itself as the most viewed. The count showed that the animated film accumulated 1,632,000 viewers, while Marvel’s only 1,490,000.

To be fair Minions OD was a Sunday and not a Friday so maybe that impacted the drop a bit.

Deadline: 

Minions 2 grossed an estimated RMB 21.74M ($3.2M) in China, including midnights. This was good for the biggest opening day of a Hollywood animated film during the pandemic.

 

Overall, and not including China’s Friday, Rise of Gru has grossed $461.2M at the international box office for $807.7M worldwide.

Overseas, Gru stands at $483.5M, for $833.6M globally.

Notable overseas market totals include:

  • U.K. ($48.7M)
  • Mexico ($38.8M)
  • Germany ($29.7M)
  • Australia ($29.0M)

  • Brazil ($20.3M)
  • Spain ($19.6M)

It opened in China this weekend as the top Hollywood title, in third place overall with $11.0M behind two local films, Moon Man and Yang Jian.
