Dark Harvest is based on a novel of the same name by Norman Partridge and is about a town's efforts to defeat a pumpkin-headed monster known as "October Boy". The film was previously dated for September 9th but has allegedly moved to the 23rd, presumably to get out of the way of Warner Bros.'s upcoming Salem's Lot remake.

The film is directed by David Slade, a hit-or-miss director whose work includes Hard Candy30 Days of NightThe Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. The film stars Elizabeth Reaser (The Haunting of Hill House), Luke Kirby (The Marvelous Ms. Maisel), and Jeremy Davies (Saving Private Ryan).

The new release plan [for Thirteen Lives] also indicates an evolving strategy for Amazon as the company determines how to roll out projects from its ever-growing film slate. Variety has learned that two other MGM titles — Billy Porter’s directorial debut “Anything’s Possible” and Julius Avery’s “Samaritan,” starring Sylvester Stallone — will also launch with a revamped release plan, while still other movies will stick to their original theatrical plans.

The merger of Amazon and MGM gives Dark Harvest a clear streaming alternative to a theatrical release. Salem's Lot is firmly placed on September 9th, where Dark Harvest is supposedly releasing. On top of that, when it comes to Dark Harvest, we've heard nothing so far. That, and the director and cast doesn't inspire too much confidence. It'll be interesting to see what Amazon does here.
