portgas
And Frozen keeps chugging along. It's almost dead here, though. It's already out of the most theatres in my city and will have few showings on a weekend, and that's all. Other cities will drop it next week, i assume. Still a fantastic run. juni78ukr
Viy is very strong. With better exchange rates might have hit 3mln OD or come very close. Probably around 2.5-2.6 mln by now. Frankenstein dropped by 77%. Gravity returned to IMAX but only around 6k reported so far.
Cosmonaut
Openers Wednesday(ekinobilet): 1) I, Frankenstein - $540k+ 2) Champions* - $235k+ 3) The Legend of Hercules - $232k+ 4) Bad Grandpa - $230k+ 5) Saving Mr. Banks - $43k+ 6) Inside Llewyn Davis - $26k+ $47k+ for Grudge Match, $45k+ for JR: SR. 1 USD = 34,625 RUB Openers Thursday(ekinobilet): 1) Viy* - $2,9m+ 2) Devil's Due - $130k+ 3) August - $35k+ $275k+ for I, Frankenstein, $145k+ for Champions*. 1 USD = 34,56 RUB *Local Hobbit 3 is probably the only one which could reach $50m No. ^ TF will do it imo No. With ~40 RUB for USD nobody is likely to reach even $45m, but looking at the calendar and history, i'd say HTTYD 2 has the best shot, the only missing thing to be completely secure about it is an IMAX... Fullbuster
hopefully it does! DOS was actually back in my IMAX this wkend I'm optimistic, the first one was the second most successful SH movie in 2012 with $22m, given Russians didn't care about these movies before Avengers it was a great number. Now I expect something between $30m and $35m for TASM2, a real improvement Edited February 3, 2014 by Sonic
Fullbuster
Robocop could be impressive here, action movies are very successful there. Edited February 3, 2014 by Sonic
Cosmonaut
Early trends for the next weekend: It seems like Viy* may get majority of IMAX shows, despite it being non-IMAX movie, lol, IMAX and it's true colors, never gets old, 1 show per day for Gravity and Frank. Wolf has got 4 full screens in some theaters, but only 4 shows per day on each one due to 3 hr runtime, definetely can see $1m OD though, and oldest predictions are still valid, actually even more than back then, piracy gives a positive effect. Jake Gittes
So Viy, is this a well known story in Russia? That seems like a pretty good number. It's a classic and very well-known horror story. I read it in school and if I remember correctly it was required reading. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viy_(story) I'm still surprised at the number because the movie looks like dead CGI bullshit that completely butchers the story and I assumed enough people would recognize that and avoid it. I wouldn't have been surprised if the OW had been, say, $10m, give or take a couple of million, but nearly twice that is ridiculous.
