John Marston
opened about ten years ago and still one of the most amazing box office runs. I remember the hype for this movie. It was insane. Everyone was talking about it and it blew away all expectations at the box office. Think all the controversy about “kids killing kids” and all the hype for the next big YA franchise after HP ended and Twilight was coming to an end really powered it Interestingly the franchise really petered out by the last movie both quality and business wise. Guess the whole thing was kind of a fad. Still can't believe though the first two films made more than any Harry Potter film domestically interview with Gary Ross on the films 10th anniversary https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-features/the-hunger-games-anniversary-gary-ross-interview-1235114641/
excel1
Good film that was a true enormous breakout upon release, but truly "of its time" for the early 2010s. JLaw also became an instant superstar, but has little drawing power left while Hemsworth and especially Hutcherson have been completely forgotten. Always felt odd how this series fizzled out after such a deafening start, though. This film, and the overall series, has had virtually no staying power. Torontofan
The movie franchise was based on a gimmick of kids killing kids. Once that was gone in part 3 interest was gone.
