74th - People Get Up and Drive Funky Soul - Spiderman 3

90 Points - 0 Top 5 Vote, 0 top 10

Well time for a true classic now!

I suppose this is an iconic example of using a song for a film scene. One may argue that it is memorable for all of the wrong reasons, but also.. it is kind of funny and that was probably the original intention. Either way, at least it wasn't Nickelback eh?

YES WE DID IT!

I think it is time to blast through a few at once...

70th - May It Be - Lord of the Rings

92 Points - 0 Top 5 Vote, 1 top 10

This isn't Orinoco Flow, did Enya do more than Orinoco Flow?

We're back into the Wacky World of Middle Earth and it bears repeating that personally for me, I stopped the audio for the above song about 10 minutes ago and I already forgot how it goes. But then I am also somebody who went into my screen of Return of the King all ready to see the final epic climax of one of the best trilogies ever and prebook by DVD order for the Extended Editions DVD Trilogy only to find myself somewhere through ending number 6 deciding that I was noping out of this franchise and I have seen nothing LOTR related on screen ever since.

So basically, in this one small microcosm and nowhere else, my opinion is perhaps not 100% valid.

69th - Danger Zone - Top Gun

92 Points - 0 Top 5 Vote, 1 top 10

This song placement is truly Up Where It Belongs

A movie theme that persists when many others are beginning to either fade from short term memory or at least lose their connection to the movie it was a part of (Like, who knew that California Dreaming was ever used in a movie?). It is a high tempo, jet fueled song that matched the vibe of Top Gun tres excellently and the upcoming film is going to have a tough job replicating that aspect of the original in a few weeks time.

68th - See You Again - Furious 7

92 Points - 0 Top 5 Vote, 0 top 10

Remember when the Furious Series accidentally became like unironically good for like 30 minutes?

I have no idea when the moment, from when... from that moment on, when it was the moment... starting then... of the genesis of this song in Furious 7.  It is clearly more of a tribute to the actor than the character and as time has gone by I feel that is why it loses prominence on this list. It was a fantastic emotional moment that was surprising effective considering the series. But it isn't really a cinematic moment, it is much more a real life moment captured in the cinematic medium.

67th - Mrs. Robinson - The Graduate

92 Points - 0 Top 5 Vote, 0 top 10

I do promise that something on this list didn't score 92 points.

I think after this menagerie of mayhem at 92, there are only a couple more 3 way ties ahead with the rest being two way ties or god forbid films with their own unique scores. Anyhow... Mrs. Robinson, yeah, this is another song that has managed to stay synonymous with its film and even further I feel like Simon and Garfunkel are to an extent now, the dudes that did The Graduate Soundtrack as well as that song about a bridge (possibly Kwai, but that is unsubstantiated).

66th - We Don't Talk About Bruno - Encanto

93 Points - 0 Top 5 Vote, 1 top 10

How are we supposed to not talk about Bruno? Like We all yell "Silencio de Bruno"?

So, I have not seen Encanto yet as it came out during the Korean Covid megaplosion, but I have heard this song maybe a couple of times in general radio play, so it seems like this is the 2020s version of Let It Go? But obviously at like 5% of the scale at best as to suggest it is even close to the global transcendency of Frozen is... well madness.

I head that they got that lady with the wet cat to sing about it at the Oscars though, so that was likely a lovely moment for the kids staying up to watch the song sung live for the first time.

65th - Staying Alive - Staying Alive

93 Points - 0 Top 5 Vote, 1 top 10

I suppose if anything John Travolta related from the 70s had to make it, I am glad it is this.

John Travolta, as much as I may love him now, him in the 70s and The Sound of Music are a big reason why I decided I hated musicals growing up (it never occurred to me that all the Disney animations I watched while thinking this were also musicals). At least now, I can kind of appreciate the quality of the BeeGees and that has gone some distance to me, at a personal level being okay with this film placing on the list. I think if it had been anything else from 70s Travolta, I may have just gone into a rage.

63rd - Goldfinger - Goldfinger

94 Points - 1 Top 5 Vote, 0 top 10

Do like 80% of the good Bond themes contain the word, 'gold'?

I mean it is classic Connery Bond, so obviously the film is outdated arse, but there is no denying that Shirley Bassey knocked this song out of the park to make it one of those Bond Films where you remember the theme before you remember film (I am looking at you, Skyfall). This song wasn't just a theme, it was a part of the movie in a way that the best Bond themes do better than pretty much anybody else in cinema.

62nd - The Bare Necessities - The Jungle Book

94 Points - 1 Top 5 Vote, 0 top 10

I would put Bill Murray's version here, but I did that joke once already, and it's still not clear yet whether Bill is now a bad person or not.

Also, this is like my second favourite song from my favourite Disney film and so it must be present in its original glory. The Jungle Book is such a wonderful animated film from the Golden Age that I honestly wouldn't care if they just produced some half arsed animated sequel where they literally just rehash the soundtrack from the original. I would happily watch that if it ever happened.

To be honest, the only thing wrong with this song is that it isn't called The Bear Necessities.

61st - Part of Your World - The Little Mermaid

95 Points - 0 Top 5 Vote, 1 top 10

I don't see how this list that has such wonderful songs... could be bad? I mean...

Look at this list, Isn't it neat?

Even though it isn't halfway complete

wouldn't you think it's the list,

the list that has everything?

And how bout them trolls? Comedically Bold

How many montages can this list hold?

Looking at the list so far

Yes, it's got everything

It's got Disney and Pixar aplenty,

Has Marvel and meme songs galore

Y'all want Lion King Songs

They'll be 20

Yet y'all complain

Or bitch and moan

Butts all feel sore...

Did you wanna see Classic Hollywood

Maybe you thought there'd be Astaire Dancing

Fiddling around on that, what do you call it?

oh, roof

Dressing Burlesque you don't get too far

Hand Drawn's required for top 10, top 5

Not dancing with some Chimney, what's that word again?

Sweep

Atop this list

You'll find the songs

the songs that always

capture our love

From the 1990s

Made by Disney

Ruling the world

Let's blast through a few more with a quick lightning round...

60th - Bohemian Rhapsody - Wayne's World

95 Points - 0 Top 5 Vote, 0 top 10

I know that I have seen the Wayne's World films on more than one occasion, yet all I can remember is this scene and the product placement bit.

Often cited as one of the best uses of a song within a scene in a film. It is a memorable scene, although whether that is just a case of Bohemian Rhapsody being great regardless of context remains to be seen.

59th - Twist and Shout - Ferris Beuller's Day Off

97 Points - 1 Top 5 Vote, 0 top 10

Ah, the film from Ready Player One: The Book.

This is the film responsible for Godzilla and Inspector Gadget isn't it? This film isn't really one that I have ever really cared for or watched this century. So all I can really say is that it is a nice lil' song mimed by the most Broderick of Matthews.

58th - Colours of the Wind - Pocahontas

98 Points - 0 Top 5 Vote, 1 top 10

Back to the classics.

I have said it before and I will say it again, if Pocahontas was a Robin Hood style fictional character, this film would be much more favorably looked upon today. In a context-free vacuum, I still contend that this is a strong Disney film with a stellar soundtrack. Unfortunately, there are real people from history involved in this film and that makes things... a little less fortunate.

57th - Be Prepared - The Lion King

99 Points - 0 Top 5 Vote, 1 top 10

Jim Cummings giving his best impression of Jeremy Irons doing an Alan Rickman impression.

As much as I love this song (and I really do), the most impressive thing about it to me is that Jeremy Irons isn't singing it. That's some damn good interpretation of a theoretical singing voice.

56th - You Know My Name - Casino Royale

100 Points - 0 Top 5 Vote, 0 top 10

Wait, isn't this song supposed to be called Casino Royale.

Another Bond theme and I am a little surprised to see this beat out efforts such as Goldfinger. It is another very Bondy song I will agree and it does its job as an opening credits montage ditty admirably.

This was in my top 5. One of the most iconic soundtrack moments ever imo.
