US DVD SALES CHART WEEK ENDING DECEMBER 25, 2011 (PG 7)

Recommended Posts

Let's say you want to import a table into Excel. You go to Excel -> Data -> From Web. In the dialog box, you enter the URL of the web page which has the table. Excel automatically recognizes all possible tables. You will see a bunch of yellow marks throughout the page. Click the one on the top-left corner of the desired table. And that's it, table will be imported into Excel.I am gonna be away for another week or so, and can't do all this on my phone, so if you can do it then it would be great.

Oh, didn't know Excel had that feature, that's awesome.Give me the URL and I'll play around with it today. Would you want me to post it somewhere or just send it to you?

http://www.homemediamagazine.com/list/research/top-sellers-45It has links to the weekly sales reports published by Nielsen Videoscan. You open a link and then click on the 'Top 20 selling Blu-ray disc for the week' link. This page will contain the ratio with the highest-selling movie given an index of 100.00 .Put these URLs into Excel and get the table. For some reason, it doesn't recognize that table in my PC. If the same happens to you, just select the whole page (the yellow mark in the top-left). Excel will take some time and might become 'Not Responding' for a few seconds but it will come ultimately. Then delete the top and bottom few rows (which ones you will know when you see it)..We will need these reports starting May 1, 2011. Just put all those tables into one excel file and then upload it on Google Docs and send me a PM with the link. Now that we will have the ratios, all we will need is the sales figures for any one movie from the list of a particular week and all the rest can be calculated. Since the-numbers doesn't have an archive for that, we will have to search manually for those tables with Google. Leave that to me. Then it is just a matter of adding those numbers movie-wise.I won't be back to my PC till Tuesday or Wednesday so take your time. :)

I'm impressed. You really are into these home media sales figures. I always thought it was an untapped source of interest. Blu-Ray.com has a lot of useful information at times.

Ok Fake that sounds like a pretty big project and not something I should be doing at work, so I will get to it this weekend at home. I'll let you know when I finish.BTW- do you want it all on one sheet, or create a new tab for each week?

one sheet would be better, one chart below the other.
