Cinemacon 2022 Discussion Thread

CinemaCon-2021-Las-Vegas-Schedule.jpg

Another year, another CinemaCon is upon us. It’s the epic theater convention where all the studios pretend to give a shit about movie theaters and pimp out all the epic movies they have. We then get a bunch of live tweets from bloggers and journalists hyping up what they saw, with EmpireCity following suit.

Sure, these conferences are arguably puff pieces above all else, but it's fun to hear about movies that we're all excited for, movies we know little about, and more importantly, see a lot of cool posters and logos and other marketing materials for the first time ever. And hey, sometimes there's a surprise announcement here and there.

So here's where you are free to discuss to your heart's content all things CinemaCon. As per usual, be nice, be courteous, and don't be a dick. Have fun!

Schedule (all times PST)

Sony: 4/25, 6:30-8:30 PM

Neon: 4/26, 9:15-11:30 AM

Warner Bros: 4/26, 4-6 PM

The Black Phone screening: 4/26, 8:30-11:30 PM

Disney: 4/27, 9:45-11:30 AM

Universal/Focus: 4/27, 4:15-6:30 PM

Paramount (+ Top Gun: Maverick screening): 4/28, 9:15 AM-12:15 PM

what the hell is Neon there for? All they have is the Cronenberg (which will rule).

They'll probably announce some acquisitions, mostly related to cannes movie if I had to guess

They got Parasite, so im sure theyll get one of the 2 korean films competing in cannes and maybe something like Triangle of Sadness and one of the other completely international projects

If I was at cinemacon and believed Neon was premiering a Decision to Leave trailer id make sure to go check out their presentation

And they also need to make people see the much better french trailer of the Cronenberg

That's possible but I feel like that would have been announced by now, especially when Cannes unveiled the lineup

Nothing will be shown online. Only if they release trailers for the imediate upcoming movies, i assume those will debut online

There is loads of stuff for sale every year at Cannes (and before it), either for international theatrical rights or stuff that isn't even made, yet!  A global market goes on next door to the main festival and every country has a tent down on the beach attempting to "sell their stuff"!  Just because something's premiering at Cannes doesn't mean it has U.S. or full international distribution deals, yet.

...yes I know.. I'm saying that lol. If Neon is presenting at CinemaCon, this is different than last year when they bought Worst Person in World after premiering at Cannes. If they actually bought something already pre-Cannes and are showing it off at CinemaCon, I just feel like we would have heard about it by now

Do studios talk about ALL their upcoming theatrical releases or just the big ones?

For Example. Disney is going to have 3-4 Searchlight releases this year in theaters. Will they talk or mention all of them at CinemaCon?

They've got 105 minutes to fill up so they will have to talk about a decent amount of things, I'd imagine. Although if they show like 20 minutes of Avatar or some Wakanda Forever footage (or any other footage), that'll take up some time.
