Firestarter will probably hit about $5M for the weekend due to Friday the 13th but still an unsurprisingly dismal start overall between the nonexistent marketing and awful reviews. They should've just sent it straight to Peacock instead of doing a hybrid release.

"Firestarter" did have some TV spots, but mostly on cable.  Just saw someone posted a TV spot.

At this point, day-and-date releases are looked as the studios announcing to the world "hey, our movie will probably bomb and we have no trust in it!". Is kinda like, marketing suicide. Universal have nothing to win by following this strategy with bigger movies.

If studios have no faith, they wouldn't release the film in theaters at all. (like "Deep Water")

"Firestarter" is actually very likely to make small profit.  With low production budget and modest P&A cost,  if the film can gross more than $10 million in US box office, Universal can actually make small profit though their worldwide output deals.

Not great second FRI but $400M is still safe right?

No, not really.  Mid or even low $60s this weekend put that threshold in jeopardy

If $17M is correct then that's a pretty weak Friday bump for the MCU. Saturday probably goes +65% from Friday and Sunday is -35% from Saturday. Gives us something around $63M, which would be lower than GOTG2's 2nd weekend despite opening nearly 30% higher.
