Top Gun: Maverick | Oscar-wining Billionaire | $1.48bn without China!

Recommended Posts

If we compare with MI6 data in Japan at the time of its release in August with nearly 6x multiplier of its weekend.

It have 57% drop on Monday, 16% on  Tuesday, 14% increase on Wednesday.

So far TG2 already drop 50% on Sunday, 8% yesterday and probably above 20% increase today. So it overperforms everyday compared to MI6. If this holds at least 7x+ multiplier seems possible.

Wednesday comp is skewed cause the 1st of every month is a national discount day in Japan.

Italy and Spain are equal markets (in 2019 the total yearly gross was over 700M for both), since at the moment our gross for Maverick is basically double than Spain I don't think we should be considered at the same level, also because here it isn't a disappointment at all 😅

Italy and Spain really underperform IMO. TGM came close to DS2 in every western developed markets such as UK, France , Australia, Japan, Germany and many more , and suddenly we have Spain and Italy coming in with $4.2m and $2m which aren’t even half of what DS2 made on opening weekend. By comparison, DS2 hit nearly $9m and $6m opening in both territories.

That reference to Japan was wrong, DS was 5-days OW which includes Holiday Opening Day vs 3-days OW of TGM. TGM OP (Sat-Sun) is closer to NWH (¥824M vs ¥905M) while DS was ¥344M which is lower than it's Holiday OD (¥430M)

Making COMPs a bit easier

SM:NWH : ¥1.37B (3-days OW)

DS:MOM : ¥1.21B (5-days OW) [OD was Holiday

TG:M : ¥1.16B (3-days OW)

FB3 : ¥1.05B (3-days OW)

Spain OW has been extremely conditioned by Champions League final. The impact is similar Superbowl in USA taking into account that a Spanish team played the match.

And first film was not exactly a mega blockbuster. It sold 1.4 million admissions, about 10-11 million dollars adjusted. It is a bit disappointing but nothing tragic.

Btw, I saw the film yesterday and I think it is better than the first one. Really entertaining.

19% drop today in Japan from tuesday, considering yesterday is first of the month discount day. Pretty good i guess, total weekdays so far est. 5.7m ( using WE atp). Tomorrow is important with almost 18% less total seats compared to last week.

Maybe it's more that DS2 performed quite well there (while doing kinda badly in Germany). Italy and Germany had pretty much the same number for DS2.
