pinocchio
I guess Star Wars was never released in the SSSR because I could not find any numbers from this Russia link.
Rudolf
There are people that think that Star Wars (meaning SDI (Reagan's strategic defence initiative)) destroyed the Sowjet Union.I think it was Gorbatschow.concerning the movieI found an 1977 article with translation:http://michaelidov.t...ar-of-the-stars Edited April 12, 2012 by Rudolf
Heretic
Oh wow. Avatar had 16.5m admissions in the UK, ranking 13th of all time. Didn't know it was that high.
Anaotchan
@ lab:USA hide admission numbers because newer movies would look bad compared to older ones.I'd been wondering about that... My own guess for them using gross instead of admission numbers was that $ are the more relevant unit for them. They care about making a profit, not about making historical comparisons. My own guess for them using gross instead of admission numbers was that $ are the more relevant unit for them. They care about making a profit, not about making historical comparisons. But those gross numbers tell you nothing about profit. Until the mid 80ies or so the industry actually reported rentals -- the money that the distributor can collect after movie theatres took their share. Then the USA switched from rentals to gross. The idea is simple. Thanks to rising ticket prices you can always communicate new "records" even if overall admissions for a single flick are not too big. Ideally they'd report both admissions and rentals, that way we could discuss both historical trends and short-term profits. But sadly they don't report those numbers for our sake... :-) I guess we should be grateful that most European countries still do report admission numbers. That is so enormous.Godfather has an italian theme.Tango had Brando at the top of his popularity and had the reputation of a highly erotic movie ( a must see at the time).
