Even considering that the Monday holiday made this a "long" weekend, those are really excellent numbers. Not only the opening of Die Schule der magischen Tiere 2, but also many holds … Ticket to Paradise went up, seems to have excellent WOM! Minions 2 had an astonishing hold against this opening …

Austria's weekend was very similar, with Ticket doing even better here.

Next weekend: Domestic drama In einem Land, das es nicht mehr gibt and The Woman King are the "big" openers but both only in limited release, so excellent conditions for holdovers! Weather should be better so probably steep drops but that's to be expected anyway after the long weekend.

While the openers where underwhelming (as expected), holds were fine or even stunning. That increase for Smile is unheard of among horror releases … in fact, that would be fantastic even for a comedy! Die Schule der magischen Tiere 2 dropped as expected but this 2nd weekend is still about as high as the OW of part 1. And Ticket to Paradise is on a path to well over a million total, fine run!

In Austria, Smile's increase was even bigger, otherwise pretty similar numbers.

Next weekend: Halloween Ends is the biggest opener. While weekends around halloween are usually capable of carrying two horror releases, the surprisingly strong Smile might bite deeply into Halloween's audiences … we might see horror on #1 and #2 but atrm my bet for #1 would be Smile!

Concerning might; there's another release with hit potential: One Piece Film - Red, and at least at my theater, those presales look stronger than Halloween's … so overall, we can expect good weekdays and a strong weekend! And we'll celebrate 4mil total for the Minions!

It seems as if we could look forward to the first trend :).

These Thursday estimates/forum reports have by far no 100% accurancy but from reading several reports One Piece Film: Red had also in Germany a pretty good first day.
Halloween Ends is doing solid business too and Smile will increase again this weekend (I have to see that film). Idk how much, Mark_G  predicted an increase of 50% for Smile but with Halloween Ends as direct competition that seems almost unrealistic. But let's see, he is the expert. In the reports of insidekino.de Smile was either stable compared to last week or it (clearly) increased.
Most other holdovers should also have nice holds. E.g. Ticket to Paradise had nice estimated admissions today.

The OD for Red is obviously great - coming this close to 100k doesn't happen too often atm - especially not in only 399 theaters. As for Halloween ends, its predecessor had 20k OD last year so either it actually benefited from Smile doing good or from the holidays being in place right now.

INSIDEKINO

An exciting three-way battle for the No. 1 position has been decided, because according to the first estimates, The School of Magical Animals 2 defends the No. 1 position with around 265,000 visitors and has around 1.25 million visitors after 18 days. Also, the sequel is up about 5% from the previous week.

Silver goes to Smile again - Do you see it too? , which with approx. 245T visitors also wrote higher visitor numbers (+13%) on the third weekend, now has a total of around 730T visitors and could exceed the million mark next weekend.

No. 1 by revenue (no wonder, with an average ticket price of around €14) is One Piece Film: Red, which with over 230T visitors pulverized the overall results of the anime Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (183,669) and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero (110,666) this year.

Halloween Ends starts with an estimated 162.5T visitors, significantly (+41%) more than its predecessor (115,201).

Ticket ins Paradies (approx. 95T/945T) closes the top five and should also crack the million next weekend.

The Cannes winner Triangle of Sadness is off to a good start and should have around 50T visitors by Sunday.

Also worth mentioning is Minions - In search of the mini boss (approx. 37.5T/4,040T), which passed the 4 million mark on Wednesday and increased by 28% on the 16th weekend (!).

The top ten was up
about 48% from the previous week, down about 5% from the same weekend 41/2021 when No Time to Die topped the charts with 922,439 visitors on the second weekend.

What a weekend … close run for #1 and excellent openers and increases all over the chart! One Piece Film - Red showed the potential of anime releases - especially when you look at the ticket prices, fans are obviously ready to pay premium for such events! Halloween Ends had a super opening for this franchsie and still didn't make the Top3, because holdovers Die Schule der magischen Tiere 2 and surprise hit Smile both had an increase! Longrunners Minions 2 (crossed 4mil this week) and Top Gun Maverick both showed that their runs are not over yet. Arthouse release Triangle of Sadness had a nice PTA.

In Austria, also an excellent weekend, with both Horror releases, Ticket and Triangle doing even better, while the One Piece Film didn't score like in Germany (still a good performance).

Next weekend: The wide openers will be Black Adam (slow presales here) and Der Nachname (comedy sequels are difficult to predict but might miss the mark by a lot as we've seen with the 2nd Känguru movie). Let's see if one of these can make the Top3, and how well the horror holdovers perform as we're getting near halloween! Smile's performance has been nothing but astonishing so far …
