Additional Analysis - GERMANY BOX OFFICE THREAD on Reddit:

  • Minions: The Rise of Gru has now sold a total of 4,040,648 tickets, this means that it has now surpassed 4 million tickets.

This makes it the first Family Film to sell over 4 million tickets (and over 2 million tickets), since Frozen II (6,782,166 tickets) and due to that it was also the first Family Film to do that since the Pandemic started.

It is also only the 3rd Film to sell 4 million+ tickets since the Pandemic started, behind only Spider-Man: No Way Home (4,639,694 tickets) and No Time to Die (6,036,966 tickets).

It is also the 3rd Film in the Despicable Me/ Minions Franchise to sell 4 million+ tickets. The other two films being: Despicable Me 3 (4,652,624 tickets) and the first Minions Movie (6,945,769 tickets).

  • Smile has now sold a total of 728,511 tickets and grossed a total of $6,511,060, this means that it has now surpassed the Totals of The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (750,561 tickets & $7,327,210+). This makes it the Biggest Horror Film since the Pandemic started and it's only in it's 3rd Weekend!

  • Top Gun: Maverick sold 16,052 tickets and grossed $165,644 in it's 21st Weekend, this is a drop of +13% and -23.6%. As a comparision, this film previously had the 5th Biggest Opening Weekend since the Pandemic started and the Biggest 20th Weekend since the Pandemic started. The Film is now aiming to end up with Ca. 3.7 million tickets and Ca. $37.5 million, which is an absolutely amazing result and something i would've never expected.

Those 3,7mil admissions are really good but they do pale a bit compared to Austria's 590k - while you can't compare the markets with a straight 1:10, even the usual 1:9 would put Maverick at >5,3mil in Germany if it was as popular there as it is here. If 3,7mil for Germany are "amazing", I don't know what word you would apply to Austria's number :)

As for Minions2 - Germany's now >4mil are a very good result, but in Austria, it's also still in release and is now very very close to 530k.

Btw, "Guglhupfgeschwader", very successful in Germany as the one with most admissions in the franchise, is more than doubling Germany's result in Austria with now very close to 300k admissions.

It is subject to change that admission numbers once the weekend numbers will come in a few days, but that is quite a huge drop.

you have to remember that in Germany, Thursday is included in the weekend numbers. And those anime night events are mainly Wed+Thu. So, last weekend was inflated thanks to an extremely strong Thursday, that's not the case this weekend.

Fine weekend, the openers within expectations and sensible holds. Black Adam has a shot at 1mil total but with strong competition, probably not. Die Schule der magischen Tiere 2 lost its lead but is on its way to a total well north of 2mil, super hold once more! Ticket to Paradise finally crossed 1mil, strong legs!

Pretty similar results in Austria (Ticket is already at 170k here).

Next weekend: No big openers, so holdovers should see nice drops, especially, of course, horror releases!

Good weekend, especially domestic releases on #2, #3 and #4! In Austria, results were a bit different - Halloween Ends much stronger, while Rheingold has gotten only a very limited release (sensibly I think, the biopic wouldn't generate much interest here).

Next weekend: No big openers, among them Prey for the Devil which gets a late halloween start for whatever reason, and a release for the very young - Hui Buh und das Schlossgespenst. With school holidays and cool weather in some parts of Germany, there should be some good weekdays, especially for family releases.
