Boring weekend with Hotzenplotz as the biggest opener … family releases in general doing a bit better than the rest, but really a disaster weekend for December. Black Adam crossed 1mil total - barely.

Next weekend: Finally, Avatar 2 - the biggest post-covid weekend should be little problem, the real question is how high it can go during the holidays - estimates range from 6mil to 10mil total. Truth be told, while people are aware of the opening, there's pretty little excitement - let's see how WOM develops.

What will Avatar 2  average ticket price be like there?

probably somewhere in the 18-20€ region, at least for the first days and weekends. Maybe rewatches will be more 2D but that's hard to predict.

As an aside, presales are not too overwhelming ... the evening shows are selling ok (but still a lot of seats available) while afternoon shows are selling really slow. At least at my cinema, it doesn't look like there'll be any sellouts OD.

I don't think TP will be quite that high on average, though, even for the OW

maybe ... at my cinema, the 3D ticket with prepaid cards is €13,-- for OD; €14,50 for the weekend - the standard 3D tickets however are €19,-- OD and weekend. 4DX shows are €24,-- - those are not many (but are the only shows nearing sellout). 2D prices are €14,-- withoute rebates and so on - but 2D shows are until now selling a lot less seats, at least OW. That's why I thought it might come in between €18 and 20 for OW but drop later on, because people might switch to 2D for a rewatch and abandon 4DX altogether..

Strange World - while far from a success - is flopping much softer than in Germany - and Violent Night more than doubles Germany's numbers - two more international releases where numbers diverge; we've had a lot of them this year!

I don't think it's flu season, it just seems to be in line with everywhere else in lacking that final PS push. We shall see what happens with walkups but the ending of its PS run is shaping up to be pretty disappointing. Going down on SH comps is just not good.

Peple are SO obsessed with the OD and OW.

It's a Cameron movie at Christmas time!

Avatar 2 (Dec 14th) Ba-Wü Preview Seat Report T-0

Sellouts Shows Seats Sold Total Seats % Sold
Total 2 276 12,460 54,950 22.68%

Total Seats Sold Last Day: 1,717

Comp

0.957x DS 2 T-0 (1.63M€/154.000 Adm. OD)

1.785x Thor LT T-0 (2.06M€/197.00 Adm. OD)

JW3 - missed

2.761x The Batman T-0 (1.40M€/135.750 Adm. OD)

2.158x TGM T-0 (1.83M€/179.250 Adm. OD)

2.289x BP WF T-0 (1.95M€/170.000 Adm. OD)

Allrighty final day. Ok day, slightly behind DS2 but i think thats not a big problem. SH movies are more frontloaded per se, and expecting better legs for Avatar 2. Critics are good for this movie so WOM will be the deciding factor if it can go beyond 8 million.

As for the OD, still sticking with my prediction but will narrow it down to 185-215k.

Watched it, i thought it was good to great and even the most parts i didnt like werent really bad, but just not in my interest like family dramas, though dialogue could definitely be better.

I watched it at 13:35 and there were many old people there, like over half looked like seniors. For the time not that surprising, but didnt see something like that for a marvel movie.

Oppenheimer trailer ran before the movie, i have no idea what its about, but i think i saw Nolans name like 5 times. I wanna dance ran too looked boring as hell, honestly, like Hollywood is just desperate for finding somebody for a biopic.

Spoiler

Watched a 19:30 showing, skewing very old(er),, some college age kids, none under 20 years, 80% full

Review:

I really was on PANDORA, the 3D and HFR are really immersive, the underwater scenes are incredible
First act is slow but it builds after that, some of the Metkayina aren't really fleshed out, but that's okay
Neytiri is BEAUTIFUL and her going berserk mode in the finale made me tear up
You're going to fall in love with Kiri
You're going to want to protect Tuk
Loak is great honestly
Theres some cringe dialogue between the kids but you are used to that if you watched T2

The end made me tear up multiple times, not gonna spoil anything but I can see this having good WOM
9/10 for me

So Avatar 2 had the 2nd best OD of the pandemic.

#1 NTTD 230k

#2 Avatar 2 172k

#3 DS2 161k

#4 NWH 153k

#5 TG:M 141k

I would have hoped for more than 200k but that's still ok (the first Hobbit opened to around 150k and legged its way to 6,7M, though it might only be around 6,5-6,7M in its first run). Also it was quite wintery yesterday - and of course there was the World Cup game...

At this point I’m hoping for 5M admits and anything over that is just gravy. If it’s under 5M, then ticket sales are literally half of the first 🥲

7M doable. No problem.

Yeah, no need to get in panic Mode yet (as I said, look at the Hobbit series). The true WE will tell more.
