BO Germany/Austria: Dune 2 fine 2nd weekend

Recommended Posts

Detective Pikachu:

Saturday:

3D 17:00: 44 / 425

3D 20:30: 100 / 296

3D 22:30: 19 / 280

2D 14:20: 98 / 425

Total: 261 / 1426 -> 18.3% (+109)

Sunday:

OV 3D 20:15: 12 / 166

3D 17:00: 23 / 425

3D 20:30: 10 / 296

2D 11:20: 23 / 425

2D 14:20: 50 / 425

Total: 118 / 1737 -> 6.8% (+32)

Presales for Saturday are 1.79 times as large as those for Friday (so it increased it’s lead by a lot).

And Presales for Sunday are 0.78 times of those for Saturday 24h ago.

So based on the Thursday number (40k):

40k

100k

180k

145k

Would be 465k (and then something like 40k in previews)

Think Sunday could perform stronger for something like 160k and a 480k Weekend.

Also presales for Dark Phoenix preview started… So I will add that to the next preview update.

For a 475k Weekend (don’t know yet how presales multi is over here, so it might be a bit screwed).

Presales for Monday: 10 (don’t worry, they are always, always awful, presalemulti for OWend is always awful, and gets a lot better starting with Monday (unless it’s a holiday). Otherwise, it would be a 91.5% drop.

According to first estimates, Avengers - Endgame defends the No. 1 position with about 420T visitors in a tight race and after 19 days stands at 4.29 million visitors. This makes the Fourquel the first film since 2017 that breaks the 4 million visitor mark.

Silver goes to Pokémon - master detective Pikachu, who counts nearly 450T visitors until Sunday and achieves the fourth best start of the year.

Well, Glam Girls also comes out of the starting blocks - ravishly spoiled, which barely missed the 200T visitor brand including previews.

The Top Five are completed by The Fall Collini (approximately 75T / 530T total) and Monsieur Claude 2 (approximately 65T / 1.1 million).

The top ten fell by about 8% compared to the previous week, compared to the same weekend 19/2018, when Avengers - Infinity War, with 416,410 visitors on the third weekend, topped the charts, it went up by about 20%.

-51.8% for Endgame after dropping 48% from 1st to 2nd Weekend.

Mmmhh, kinda hoped for a little better dropped, I think 5m is probably where it's heading, it won't get further.

While the Avengers dropped a bit harder than hoped for, both openers performed well and Der Fall Collini as well as the unspeakable French comedy continued with fine holds.

Next weekend: Well, nothing really attractive this weekend, but thriller Greta might at least get a decent PTA thanks to the current thriller vacuum … also opening: some small family releases, none of them bestsellers but probably enough to drag family holdovers further down.

Trend:

Quote

Trend:
The trend is again under weather provisio ... How nice or how stormy will the weekend actually be?
The battle for the No. 1 position will definitely be exciting again - last weekend the difference between gold and silver was only 14k visitors and it could be similar this weekend again ...
At the moment I see Pokémon - Pikachu with about 225k visitors just ahead of Avengers - Endgame with about 215k visitors. Overall, the two films would be at about 755k or 4.6 million visitors.
Glam Girls should remain with six digits with about 140k visitors (380k total).
The Collini case (52.5k) and Monsieur Claude 2 (42.5k) complete the top five.
The new releases play, as expected this weekend, not a big role ...

with weather returning to fine, harsh drops for most releases despite no big openers if those estimates come true:

#1: Pikachu - 225k admissions (-44%)

#2: Avengers - 215k (-49%)

#3: Hustle - 140k (-11%) - super hold, seems to have fine WOM

#4: Collini - 53k (-30%)

#5: QecqoafeaBD? - 43k (-35%)

And some Thursday actuals (source Blickpunkt:Film):

The new releases:

The Silence (released in 285 theaters): 2.8k → 20k admissions OW in the first trend of insidekino.de, far under the expectations
Greta (175): 2.650k → 32.5k admissions OW
Maquia (121): 1.8k
Royal Opera House 2019 (99): 1.650
Das Familienphoto (86): 1.6k
Urfin, der Zauberer von Oz/Urfin Dzhyus i ego derevyannye soldaty (123): ?k → 5k OW
The Sun Is Also a Star (120): ?k → 5k OW

The holdovers (mostly pretty good):

Avengers: Endgame: 30k (actuals last Thursday 50k) - ok
Pika: 30k (40k) - nice, probably Mark_G is already considering the sunshine today, on Saturday and Sunday, otherwise the hold would be much better
The Hustle: 17k (15k) - it increased!
Der Fall Collini: 6.5k (8k)
Monsieur Claude 2: 5k (5.5k)

So what I gather from this list; the worse the film, the better the hold.

Good going Germany, I really hope the Hustle isn't holding like that in my native Switzerland!

Its not my type of movie, but in my POV that is rather condescendingly sounding worded.

First of all, I am very sorry if I offended you or anyone else. I also very much apologize for insinuating anything about German filmgoing habits. Swiss-German tastes (at least as reflected in the box office) are very similar and I believe the success of some recent, shall we say not such high quality films (like After and The Hustle), has everything to do with a general lack of appealing films to German and Swiss moviegoers and definitely not that German/Swiss taste in film is better/worse than those of people from any other country (saying something to that effect would be truly condescending and hypocritical)

About my comments regarding the quality of The Hustle, have you seen the film? How bad does a film need to be before calling its quality into question is not considered condescending?

Sure, the fact that Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is one of my favorite movies is an additional source of bias, but come on. Aside from the actresses having natural screen presences, everything from the script to the technical aspects of the film are downright poor in quality. There is little creativity or ambition and few interesting directorial choices. It isn't a piece of art, its a studio film remake, and I think at a certain point we can draw comparisons about film quality without being condescending

Comedies tend to do somewhat good here and Endgame opened 60% above IW on the 4-day, the full OWend was double the IW ones and it almost opened on the 5-day with what Avengers made in total, so I guess legs always were meant to be somewhat bad. But to be honest, legs are rather underwhelming, it constantly drops 50%, that is meeh, it's definitely not bad but it should have had at least one better drop, like TLJ which opened rather similar (if using Endgames 4-day), that movie increased from 2nd to 3rd weekend (partly due to christmas being on the second, but none the less even the 2nd weekend drop wasn't much worse than Endgames with 55.6%.

And Germany already loved Fifty Shades so... I guess it should be expected that After does well here too.
