I don't know if it can reach that, but I am rather certain that Aladdin will easily win the weekend by a big margin because it was really strong yesterday, both the showings during the day and in the evening, even the late night showings were only behind John Wick 3 and looks somewhat good throughout the weekend.

Thursday numbers, comps to last Thursday are utterly useless as yesterday was a public holiday.

Aladdin 115k (~€1m) (Last Thursday 30k)

JW3 60k (€560k) (Last Thursday 50k)

GKotM 50k (€500k)

Rocketman 50k (€450k) (BR had roughly 90k also a public holiday but only in a few countries)

Ma 17k (€150k)

Aladdin holding flat would be great.

I guess Aladdin could do something like this:

115k

55k

65k

40k

which would be 275k, the weak Sunday because the weather is predicted to be great up to 32 °C.

Thursday actuals (for Aladdin and JW3 I won't use last Thursday as comp but rather their Opening Day as last Thursday was a public holiday in all of Germany making last Thursday the strongest day of the weekend by quite a lot:

Aladdin 25k (€215k ≈ $242.5k) (Drop compared to OD 16.7%)

Dark Phoenix 20k (€200k ≈ $226k)

John Wick 3: 18.5k (€165k ≈ $186.5k)

Rocketman: 13k (€115k ≈ $130k)

GKotM: 9.5k (€95k ≈ $107.5k)

For Dark Phoenix, I would need to say a little lower because of the good weather, though it still should do around 115k (10k lower).

The Weekend should be won by Aladdin but due to the good weather in most of Germany (above 25 °C basically everywhere but northern parts) it will hurt the weekend and lead to a worse multiplier than normally, without it I would have said that it could have done 220k, considering the good weather something around 170k is probably more likely to happen.

And insidekino.de's predictions are as following (he didn't forget the great weather):

Aladdin: 150k (-48.8%)

Dark Phoenix: 125k (incl. Previews)

John Wick 3: 110k (-39.5%)

Rocketman: 75k (-37%)

Godzilla: 55k (-60.7%, that's awful and that drop is without the previews for the last Wend))

I honestly don't think those predictions will come out true. Those numbers would be Thursday-Wend-multis of:

Aladdin: 6

Dark Phoenix: 5.75 (taking a 115k Wend)

John Wick 3: 5.95

Rocketman: 5.8

Godzilla: 5.79

Thursday wasn't a holiday so the multi for Saturday/Sunday heavy films should be better as midday shows are better for them during those two days.

On the other hand, the fact that Monday is a public holiday - I think for at least Aladdin Monday will be the highest day (weather looks to be worse than during the weekend, but still good) - will lead to better Sunday holds for John Wick which has strong showings around 10-11pm.

Edited by Taruseth
I should have checked the weather report first. Initially thought Aladdin could do something between 180-240k with it most likely being around 200k and Dark Phoenix would stay in line with estimate so 125k

Good numbers ???

No, awful numbers for both Dark Phoenix.

Apocalypse opened with 213k (without previews) based on those numbers it's possible that DP will open to around 95-100k without previews, so a drop of around 55% compared to it.

Godzilla opened to 140k so that would be a drop of 57% that's okay considering that last weekend Thursday was a public holiday.

Ma is dropping just 30% that is rather nice.

Endgame is dropping 59% that isn't good at all, it had too many steep drops (all but one were above 50%) and that's absolutely awful (not many movies do that, most have better hold throughout their run) even TLJ did it, Endgame opened on the 4-day OWend (so no OD-rush and no Previews, the OD was 460k), because they were on Wednesday compared to TLJ were Previews and OD-rush are part of the OWend) about 45k above TLJ (1672k to 1627k) but its final adm-count will be around 900k lower (5m vs. 5.9m)

Aladdin's number is pretty disappointing, it will drop about 49%, I thought it could do something around a 25-30% drop, none the less it will clearly win the weekend with about 150k adm.

John Wick 3 will be around 110k that would be 40% drop, so rather nice.

Rocketman will drop around 37% that's okay too but I don't think this will be a second BR, this will probably get somewhat average multi of around 4-5 and nothing like BR which got an 8.83x.

I mean you cant really compare the legs of a December release to that of an April release. The Xmas/New Year holiday bump is just as big in Germany as it is in the States

On top of that TLJ's box office dropped from the previous film (TFA), so it didnt tap into its full potential audience. AEG was the complete opposite. Its gross is the highest in the franchise and it opened almost twice as high as IW did (which was the highest grossing MCU title in Germany before Endgame) and will have grossed close to 50% more than IW when all is said and done. The MCU doesnt have the same GA appeal as SW does in Germany, Endgame literally ran out of audience.

I've been saying this from the beginning when the film first opened. Some people expected similar legs in Europe to Infinity War, but the question was, where the hell is this additional audience coming from? After 22 films, the MCU has a clearly defined audience. On top of that, AEG played mainly to its core fanbase and was the least accessible to GA. The fact that this film made almost 50% more than IW, already a huge film compared to previous MCU titles, is just insane. AEG pushed the boundary of the MCU's box office potential and literally hit its limit

2nd Point ... SW is a much bigger brand if we compare it with MCU in Europe .. they have Own audience & GA Support as well..

TLJ Opened with $23 M which was $4 M less than TFA .. AEG pushed the boundaries for All SH movies not Only for MCU..

Of course, Christmas helped, but the difference wasn't just caused by Christmas.

Endgame opened on a Wednesday so it had a 1.28x after first Sunday (based on the 4-day) - 5-day OWend help the legs - and it will end most likely with exactly 3x (that would be 5016k), TLJ ended with a 3.63x and that was more than just Christmas.

None the less, these are the second worst legs for a top 10 movie in the last 5 years at least, I think, the only one that was worse was Fast 8.

It opened about 56% above IW or double if we compare the 5-day OWend of Endgame to the 4-day of IW.

The second part is the most important one, which is also why no one here predicted for it to have amazing legs - if we ignore the day were it looked like it would have an amazing 2nd weekend drop, it was great, but it wasn't outstanding, on that day more could have been possible but when the weekend estimates actually returned to normal levels again on the next day, the estimates returned to 4.9-5.2m which is were it will end, so legs weren't awful but they also weren't good - from the start the thing everyone hoped for was for it to get to at least 5m adm. with hopes of it getting above 5.187m to be above Spider-Man 1 but beating TLJ was always unlikely.

And honestly, the main thing I would look on considering Endgame would be that its 5-day OWend is like less than 10% below the final adm.-count of Avengers which is rather crazy if we are being honest.

Btw IW's legs weren't great either, it got a 3.16x, so multiplier drop isn't even that high for Endgame (obviously helped a lot by the difference in OWend structure).

It wasn't that accessible for GA, none the less, more casual moviegoers watched it than I think any of the other MCU movies, don't know if that will translate to higher grosses for the MCU movies.

I think Spider-Man Far From Home will be bigger thanks to him having a role in it but I don't know that much about the others.

Yeah, the main problem for TLJ were its bad legs, TFA got a 4.24x.

Don't want to deflate the movie's success, because 5m adm. are incredible for basically every type of movie.

I'd say it gets to 5m:

Endgame vs TLJ  (In brackets are the totals) - Final for TLJ was 5906k

Before Weekend: 462k vs 0k -> +462k

OWend: 1672k (2134k) vs 1627k -> +45k (+507k)

OWdays: 707k (2841k) vs 490k (2117k) ->+217k (+724k) (public holiday for Endgame on Wednesday)

2nd Wend: 871k (3712k) vs 721k (2838k) -> +150k (+874k) (hurt by christmas eve)

2nd Wdays: 162k (3874k) vs 706k (3544k) -> -544k (+330k) (christmas week)

3rd Wend: 419k (4293k) vs 849k (4393k) -> -430k (-100k)

3rd Wdays: 94k (4387k) vs 351k (4744k) -> -257k (-357k) (new years week)

4th Wend: 214k (4601k) vs 467k (5211k) -> -253k (-610k)

4th Wdays: 56k (4657k) vs 91k (5302k) -> -35k (-645k)

5th Wend: 106k (4763k) vs 202k (5504k) -> -96k (-741k)

5th Wdays: 40k (4803k) vs 49k (5553k) -> -9k (-750k)

6th Wend: 80k (4883k) vs 110k (5663k) -> -30k (-780k) (Public holiday on Thursday for Endgame)

6th Wdays: 12k (4895k) vs 28k (5691k) -> -3k (-796k)

7th Wend: 40k (4935k) vs 70k (5761k) -> -30k (-826k)

7th Wdays: 8k (4943) vs 19k (5780k) -> -11k (-837k)

8th Wend: 20k (4963k) vs 42k (5822k) -> -22k (-859k)

8th Wdays: 5k (4968k) vs 11k (5833k) -> -6k (-865k)

9th Wend: 15k (4983k) vs 24k (5857k) -> -9k (-874k)

9th Wdays: 4k (4987k) vs 9k (5866k) -> -5k (-879k)

10th Wend: 8k (4995k) vs 11k (5877k) -> -3k (-882k)

10th Wdays: 2k (4997k) vs 3k (5879k)  -> -1k (-883k)

After that TLJ added 27k more, Endgame should add 20-25k more.

So the final adm.-count will be around 5020k (-886k).

(T-3) for Previews:

43 / 2747 -> 1.57%

Comps.:

Rocketman ~90

Godzilla ~110

John Wick 3: 326

Aladdin: 173

Dark Phoenix: 47

Using DP as a comp it would point towards something like 110k + 15k for a 125k OWend.

The other comps are pointing to lower OWend, but I think based on the name alone it should open around Dark Phoenix but I have doubts about it going any higher, it obviously could.

(T-24)

Lacks severely at the Cinestar Bremen.

But overall with 110 (+33 during last 7 days) tickets obviously way ahead of the other movies (have no information about Endgame but that was on another level)

So I guess this will open really nicely and hopefully increase quite lot from the first one.
