BO Germany/Austria: Dune 2 fine 2nd weekend

last year there were a few weekends where I shortened the weekend chart because it didn't even take 10k admissions to make it into the Top10 - really sad for a rich country with about 80mil inhabitants. Looks as if I'll have to do it again this year.

Awful, really awful. I am starting to fear that this year won't be able to go above 2016/2017 and those two already were rather bad but I am pretty certain that despite everything it will be able to top last year.

But looking at how big the lead of Disney is this year, 11m vs 3.9m and considering TLK, Frozen and SW are still to come I don't think it will get much better during the rest of the year.

 

But to be honest the numbers have always been rather underwhelming and that isn't just the case for cinema if you look at music or books in those Germany isn't that crazy either.

 

Honestly, what are people here doing?

 

 

Really hope that this period will end fast but to be honest the only big movies opening are probably Pets, Spider-Man, TLK and TS4 and out of those I think only Pets and TLK have a shot at 3m, I'd say TLK should get past it and I am starting to doubt Pets because at least the Sunday Previews will either be walk-up heavy af or will be dead because they haven't sold anything in two out of three cinemas in like 3 weeks or more. But maybe Germany will be the country where it will surprise.

Spider-Man and TS4 are coming of movies that had 1m and 1.6m adm so for them something like 1.5m and 2m adm would be a win.

There's no mention of AEG, but the way it has dropped yet and the way the other movies drop this WE I would say no. But in the reports it was rather strong...

The former, Previews are next Sunday and then its getting released the Thursday after that (27th June).

4th July is release day of Spider-Man.

Since that first 59% drop, it was right at 50% for two weekends and the last two weekends it dropped sub 50 (-28% and -44.5% in USD terms) and held better than Pikachu last weekend. Based on Pika's drop I think better that sub 50% is very feasible.

 

That said, its at the end of its run, its not like great or poor holds matter much now. Those first few drops took it down fast, after that solid holds are just trivia

The last two weekends were aided by a holiday, the 28% drop was aided by Ascension of Jesus on Thursday (a public holiday in all of Germany strongest day of the weekend) and the last one was aided by Pentecost on Monday (&Sunday) which led to a better Sunday hold (a public holiday in all of Germany).

None the less it should drop less than 50% unless today didn't help much.

 

I think that Aladdin has a chance to have a slightly higher weekend than predicted this morning but I don't know how the general picture is so I wouldn't expect more.
