Yesterday was a public holiday in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Hesse, North Rine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and partly in Saxony and Thuringia, the former four are four of the five largest and they together account for 47.8m people and the later four add roughly 8m so in total that are roughly 56m people or about 68% of the population that had a holiday so this is basically an Ascension of Jesus-Day situation and back then the internal multis were around 3x or worse, I expect them to be slightly better this time around but not by much.

 

I guess that also changes the possible final totals:

It's great here (Northern Germany).

 

 

If the forecasts for the week are true the next weekdays will be dead and I mean really dead like below 10k on the weekdays for all movies but Five Feet apart and Aladdin (and I don't know if they will be much higher).

 

Or maybe people will finally realise that most cinemas have ac and it's way nicer inside than getting a sunburn outside.

It’s higher than the final preview count for all movies but Aladdin and John Wick 3 in the last 5 weeks.

Before that I only have counts for Cinestar Bremen and there it’s at 40% of Pikachu and just 7.5% of Endgame, that would be incredible worrisome but I guess that the cinema is just rejecting it.

One interesting thing presales for the Weekend went online before the ones for Spider-Man despite this opening 13 days later. Theoretically TLK should have be on par with Spider-Man after the 5-day OWend, though I think Spider-Man, just might perform better than the first.

And I don’t know if opening presales this early makes any sense as that is three weeks earlier than for a normal movie where presales go online on the Monday or Tuesday of OWend.

Don’t know what to make out of this…

This got 60k seats in three theatres (okay they are like #6, #14 and #17 of the biggest cinemas in Germany) but none the less that are a lot of seats hope this has amazing presales and insane walk-ups.

All comps are pretty much useless as most start 2/3 days before apart from preview and a five-day opening weekend with all showings going on sale at the same time take away pressure from the previews.

Considering the circumstances, an ok weekend. Avengers Endgame finally crossed the 5mil total mark!

Next weekend: With Pets 2 there's a potential blockbuster - the first one reached 3,8mil admissions total; while it's far from a safe bet that the sequel will cross 3mil, it should at least have a decent opening (>400k admissions would already be big considering the weather).

Everything else would have been utterly catastrophic and even this is just a few inches away from one, the weekend around 210k (and considering the fact that Saturday and Sunday are supposed to be hot an sunny in all of Germany even in the north I wouldn't bet on it staying above 210k) though there is the chance that as, I think, Illumination is leaning more kid-friendly than Pixar (and WDAS) it will have a nice Weekend and a nice day today considering 8 (of 16 including) the biggest are entering Summer Holiday's.

 

Thursday actuals:

Pets 2: 30k (€240k ≈ $273k)

Five Feet Apart: 9k (€72k ≈ $82k)

Aladdin: 8k  (€70k ≈ $80k)

MIBI: 6.6k (€57k ≈ $65k)

JW3: 4.1k (€37k ≈ $42)

 

So most likely only two movies above 50k... pretty awful.

Hope Aladdin will increase next weekend.

 

Also, the Pets opened with 706k (so taking in all previews for Pets 2 the 250k weekend would be 64.6% drop). Think it none the less will leg it to something like 1.3m adm in total (better multi due to the insanely hot weather this weekend)
