BO Germany/Austria: Dune 2 fine 2nd weekend

Recommended Posts

I think TDKR will beat TDK there, it's not a traditional SH movie, it's more adult, not teenage.Germans should like it more.

Batman is a well known character, whereas the Marvel's are not.

Two big and one small opening and horrible drops for other films. Avengers was able to do much better than previous Marvel Superhero films; American Reunion sold a lot more tickets and even came in Nr. 1 in Austria €-wise. "Intouchables" was able to re-enter the Top 5 by having the smallest drop, but still nearly -50% - finally the Juggernaut is running out of steam.

This week there are no big starts: "Bel Ami", "Spy Kids 4D", "50/50", "The Cold Light of Day" and "Project X", so the top 2 might stay on top a week longer.

It's not that bad for TA :) Happy :)

Strong start for American Reunion :)

Multiplicators for the single Avengers character's films were very consistent in the 2.8-3.3 range in Germany and Austria so 30 million is not impossible. Monday+Tuesday were strong too; now let's see how next weekend turns out - if the weather's not too nice we might hopefully see some smaller drops.

Only 13% of these 90m people are under 15yo..

To compare it with France (and its higher 18% of under 15yo rate)TA made $1.2m in France per 1m under 15yoTA made $760k with us per 1m under 15yoso missing young peole can't explain it alone.

2nd(?) weekend trend Germany: AP4 again in front admission-wise, but Avengers shows a strong hold (maybe less than 20% drop).

So definitely TA nowhere behaves like previous Marvel movies.

Good start to 2nd weekend #1 TA, #2 APR(#1 Admits) thu-fri looking to be down less than 40% both films

Thanks Rth.. Sounds awesome allthough it comes from a pretty low number

Dark Shadows is doing fine here but not extraordinarily so for a Depp/Burton film. If critics are right (I haven't seen it yet, maybe Tue or Wed) this might be rather shortlived. Avengers and APR show good legs, really surprising in Avengers' case. This is doing FAR better than any of the single Avenger-hero films.Oh, and Intouchables will ad another half million of Dollars to its already heavy coffers. Down a bit in weekend 19, back to the admissions of WE17 :P

http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=intl&view=byweekend&id=avengers11.htmaccording to them we Austrians are the only country where TA did not open No1. Russia shows No6 but when it opened wide, it was No1. In Switzerland TA came in 2nd in the German speaking part. In Germany it was No1 only in money not admissions. In Ghana it made $20k but still it was No1. In Belgium and Italy it was No2 in 2nd week but still No1 opening.

The OW was disappointing, but with good legs we can say it's a success there too, so Germans can like a SH movie :)

The opening weekend was far from disappointing - in fact it was surprisingly good if you consider the weather. That was the first real summer weekend withg barbecue weather after a really cold and long winter, no one in his right mind went to the movies that weekend! B)

so why? Have all those people become SH-aficionados or did Disney just do a perfect job in making this an event?

I guess there were some factors falling into place ... Disney made a harder marketing push than Paramount with the earlier films, plus IronMan & Thor left a very good impression, reaching audiences beyond the usual SH target group. Especially Thor, which in a way was not really a SH-film but cashed in on norse mythology. And it is an event film with lots of destruction and explosions; the market was waiting for it (if a film like Battleship got respectable admissions, you know the target audience has been desperate!)
