BO Germany/Austria: Dune 2 fine 2nd weekend

Recommended Posts

A very underwhelming WE, though thanks to relatively warm weather and the storm Sabine it was deflated. Hopefully we'll see some great holds next WE!

#1 Dolittle 160k

#2 BOP 140k (155k i.P.)

#3 BB3 135k

Not a good weekend - poor openers and steep drops (partly due to the weather situation). Birds of Prey is not an outright flop but very disappointing; it may end with a smaller total than Suicide Squad's OW … domestic comedy Enkel für Anfänger also came in lower than I hoped.

Next weekend: Business will be much better with domestic comedy Nightlife taking the top spot; maybe it can open in the 300-400k range. Also opening: Bombshell and Sonic; the latter one is a dark horse for me; sometimes those game related movies do really well and others bellyflop; I have virtually no idea where this will go.

First weekend estimates from insidekino.de:

#1: Sonic - 425k (nice surprise hit)!

#2: Nightlife - 325k

#3: Dolittle - 150k

#4/5: BoP/Enkel - 105k each

some excellent holds coming from last weekend's weather-depressed numbers!

Will Frozen 2 eventually pass $60M in Germany?

Actuals are in for 2019 and, well, it's not good. It's even below the 120M I hoped for...

Yearly admissions 118,6M (+12,6%)

Yearly gross €1,024B ($1,105B, applying XR as of now) (+13,9%)

TP €8,63 ($9,32) (+1,1%)

http://www.insidekino.com/News.htm#Montag_17._Februar_2020

InsideKino has a nice stat with (by year):

Besucher (admissions)

Umsatz (Box Office in €)

Ticket (TP)

Orte (number of cities with a cinema)

Säle (screens)

% (share of german movies)

% 3D (3D share)

Good weekend with a surprise winner in Sonic, while domestic romcom Nightlife stayed a bit behind expectations for a Valentine's weekend. Overall nicely spread-out business; it's not every weekend where you need 20k admissions to enter the charts. But the story of the weekend is certainly Parasite's success; that's a massive Awards push and WOM is still good so it won't drop off the charts anytime soon!

Next weekend: It's a doggie weekend, with The Call of the Wild and a domestic Lassie adaption opening against each other … Disney and Warner must have had something like a theme weekend in mind or else they were out of theirs … while Germany is a very dog-friendly country, I suspect Sonic will stay on top. Also opening: Fantasy Island and Brahms: The Boy II (might see some success with the horror market virtually empty). With few holidays and the dog openers, other family releases will probably experience  steep drops.

yep but usually they're three weeks late :)

they also have concise information about the whole business year-wise (also, usually, a year late, but at least something):
