BO Germany/Austria: Dune 2 fine 2nd weekend

Recommended Posts

Opening-wise, of course. But it's still Friday, and the final verdict will be how it does next weekend. Obviously there was little awareness and no rush, now let's see if some WOM gets around. But at this point, 1mil admissions look nearly impossible :( - WOM has to be exceptional to get it that far.

It's not impossible, if it can have decent holds the next 2 weekends it will get a lot of help by easter holidays. Look what Narnia 3 did with the help of christmas.

Uh-oh, #1 for Oz seriously in danger. brrr...

"Bullet to the Head" is flopping, too - about 50k admissions and legs are usually very short for this kind of film.

A positive opening surprise otoh: "Night Train to Lisbon" with about 80k - doing much stronger than I expected. Confirms that 2013 is the year of german (co-)productions!

Fun facts:

In Austria 2012, The Hobbit 1 was #4, as in Germany, but it was a close race:

#4 Hobbit1: 620.719 admissions (actually still playing on some screens, so maybe 1.000 more)

#5 Ted :  618.091 admissions

Ted's run was really incredible here!

2013 looks poor at present (Jan + Feb data); big contrast to Germany where 2013 started extremely strong. The difference is that the numbers from Germany include an exceptionally strong home market with German (co-)productions accounting for more than 40% of receipts; those films didn't do nearly as much business in Austria.

Thanks

Harsh opening numbers for a #1 movie, still surprised about only -33% of H&G WH, mindblowing total admissions for 'Ziemlich beste Freunde' / Intouchables... = brought back?

13 9 Warm Bodies Concorde/Const. $ 243.684 -54,6 2.100.549 3

All (semi-)wide openers managed to make it to the Top10, but the results for Oz and BTTH are underwhelming. H&G had a higher PTA than Oz! "Night Train to Lisbon" did extremely good for an arthouse production. DH5 continues its fall. btw, BOM has updated their US$-Euro-exchange rate again so some films dropped in totals despite making money this week.

This weekend, we have a lot of openers, some very wide: "Rubinrot" (german bestseller adaption) and "Jack the Giant Slayer" for the family/youth group, "This is 40" for the comedy crowd, "Hitchcock", "Song for Marion", and Ulrich Seidl's final part in his paradise trilogy, "Paradies: Hoffnung", plus some minor releases. It's difficult to see a leader - presales are poor on all sides - but I think Rubinrot, Oz and H&G will have a close battle for #1 while JackTGS went a little under the radar and will make #4 at best. With something in theaters for every demo, business should be decent in any case!

I continue to be dazzeled by the H&G WH numbers....

Beside movie-devoted boards I didn't see either ads nor a specific hint about the German co-production (local support or German production or whatever). Has someone else another impression / experience?

Intouchables is back in the top 20

Yep - and I think it is a kind of "special" release (school shows maybe) because Intouchables doesn't show up on the according BOM weekend list at all. First I thought this might be an official re-release since Omar Sy's next film is due in two weeks. btw, Intouchables has now more than 426mil US$ according to BOM.
