BO Germany/Austria: Dune 2 fine 2nd weekend

Recommended Posts

Same here.

Again no South-West report today so I don't dare to say something concrete but it seems to look good for The Nun. In estimates it had 52k admissions today despite the overall nice weather (tomorrow it's predicted to become worse) and the soccer match Germany-France on TV.
The Nun got (only) 374 copies and the reviews are mediocre here too (saw official reviews between 3 and 8/10).

Mark_G sees 200k admissions for The Nun (800k total), 160k for Das schönste Mädchen der Welt and 60k for Alpha.

Must be a German thing, nearly empty here

I believe these 160k when I see them. The reviews are surprisingly good but the shows without the attendance of the crew members didn't look crowded today.

At insidekino I saw that Annabelle 2 had 25k estimated and 30k actual admissions on its release day. So if the estimates (52k) are not too far off The Nun is clearly in front so far. Reservations in mathäser looked really good today but that's not surprising because this theater loves this stuff.

The Thursday actuals from Blickpunkt:Film:

The bigger new releases:

The Nun (374): 35k/372k US$ – far under the estimate (it just doesn't work for bigger new releases) but still 5k over the release day of Annabelle 2
Das schönste Mädchen der Welt (a German comedy romance, released in 567 theaters): 12.5k
Alpha (250): 3.5k  30k admissions OW in the first trend

The holdovers (hefty drops this time):

Sauerkrautkoma: 12.5k (actuals last Thursday 17k)
The Equalizer 2: 7.5k (17k)
Mission: Impossible - Fallout: 5k (11k)

The Nun's surprisingly strong opening saved the weekend from being a disaster. Only one release with >100k admissions, oh my …

Next weekend: Two major releases - Mile 22 and The Predator - and they cater to roughly the same audience, sometimes I don't understand what the distributors are thinking. Among the openers, the Predator should have less problems (the franchise is still respected despite some fishy movies) but overall, I'd bet The Nun stays on top - taking into account the many good holds for horror releases we've been seeing this year.

How will this year end? It's 19% behind admissions based on the weekly top 10 and I doubt it will be able to do much against that in this and the next two weekends and it will get crushed on the last weekend, because FJG3 opened there last year and Thor opened on Tuesday too in the week following the weekend, I doubt I2 will be able to held itself against that.

And then around Christmas their won't be a SW movie which probably will just hurt more.

If it stay at the 19% behind it would end with 99M admissions.

Holdovers increased again with the 3rd Trend:

Nun 165k (-34% --> it was revised down from 185k (-27%)) :(

Predator 85k (seems pretty frontloaded...)

Book Club 85k

DsMdW 75k (-23%/-40%) Considering the end of vacation that doesn't seem to be too bad.

P&F 75k

Mile22 55k

HT3 50k (-40%)

EQ2 45k (-35%)
