Presales are really extremely strong and there's not much competition - while 10mil can never be a safe bet, the OW record is definitely possible - and from there on, with holidays until Jan10 - legs should be beautiful too!

While MJ2, IO and Spectre continue to draw in crowds, the openers were really weak … TGD is by far the lowest opening for Pixar ever, and BoS fared more than poor for a Spielberg/Hanks starrer.

 

Next weekend: "In the Heart of the Sea" is trying for the adventure crowd … Howard's "Rush" was a bit of a success story but I don't know if HotS can cash in on that; Top3 should be possible though.

Fifty shades helds the record with 750k presales 2 days before its release. I'm sure StarWars can top that.

#3: TgD - 100k (-35%)

Krampus also at 100k but that includes strong previews

actuals tomorrow but last estimates were good, except the Dinosaur which dropped harder with 25%.

Best opener: Krampus with a little under 70k admissions.

 

btw, in Austria, Krampus snatched the top spot with more than 40k admissions!!! Incredible if you consider that Germany has 10x as many inhabitants and the markets are very similar. Might be related to the fact that there's a special Austrian dubbing for Krampus.

Overall a pretty good weekend, it's just that no opener did any major business. Especially HotS is a complete flop, didn't expect that as "Rush" was a medium-sized hit … among older releases, FJG2 finally crossed 7,6mil admissions and Spectre 5,9mil.

 

Next weekend: Everyone is waiting for the Star Wars Hammer, so a typical quiet before the storm. "The Little Prince" and "Heidi" try to liven up the family market, "Heidi" has got some pretty good reviews and might generate some business outside the core demo. "Knock Knock" looks weak. MJ2 and Spectre will continue to collect tickets before losing their screens.

Overall, the weekend was not as bad as expected, good opening for "Heidi" and some nice holds (after the extremely bad opening, TGD at least keeps doing 6-digit-weekends).

 

Next weekend: Star, Wars and 7 will smash the competition (except Heidi and TGD I guess). An opening north of 2,5mil admissions seems a safe bet by now and some expectations rise towards the 3mil treshold - crazy!

with 3D, we're talking over 30mil

Weekend 3D shows sell for more than 14€ per standard ticket at my theater, that's about 16USD with current exchange rates. You can do the math from there ... even if you take into account that there are a lot of discount options, 35mil from Germany and 4-5mil from Austria  seem a good estimate.

I hope SW will crash Ice Age 2's first week record, 4mio admissions are possible. Isn't it crazy??? And people told me SW is irrelevant in Germany a few month ago.
