BO Germany/Austria: Dune 2 fine 2nd weekend

Recommended Posts

Germany and Austria have as a rule softer drops. Of course a drop was expected after the holidays but it's a bit disconcerting how it's, once more, dropping harder than everything else. A few days ago I said that 9mil admissions total were a "safe bet" thanks to strong weekdays, now it seems that it might well miss this mark.

The SW drop is better than the drop ROTK had at the same weekend (-41% vs. -49%) so I don't think there's something to complain about. Hopefully it doesn't drop more than that. €85M after the weekend. €100M should happen even when it doesn't reach 9M admissions.

Does anybody know what the trend is for 2015? Should be over 140M admissions, right? And then maybe €1150M, best year ever in gross.

@terrestrial
I see. Sometimes I read the Real World thread but have overlooked that there is a milestone tread too. And so many other threads. Boxofficetheory.com must be the biggest (and best) movie-website in the Internet.

To also say something that is not off-topic ;): Saw The Revenant yesterday. The 8:15pm show was completely sold out in the second biggest cinema hall (445 seats).
I would rate the film 7.5/10. Intense (but IMO not too cruel), mostly exciting, flawless actors (Will Poulter and Domhnall Gleeson were also very good), very beautiful (landscape) shots. No doubt a film for the big screen.

I think so too

I might miss that one, sadly not a lot of time, especially not enough hours in one row.

I really want to watch SW 7 a second time (and that would be the first time in german) and I do not even have the time for that. And the newest/latest Macbeth (I watch all Macbeth, cinema or disc), and...

Might have to wait for the discs....

Son will watch next week H8 with his friends, I am curious what he will have to say about that.

Shouldn't it need another tiny bump for that?

It was estimated at 7.05 million prior to the weekend. The current trend adds 550k, for a total of 7.60 million admissions. FJG2 stood at 7.637, probably 7.64 after the weekend is over, as it is still pulling in a few thousand every weekend.

It might take Monday to actually pass it, if weekday-actuals and a further bump for the weekend aren't happening. Still, you can pretty much count the hours until it will happen ;)

final weekend trend looks a lot better for every release, maybe bad weather as a motivation for moviegoers - Revenant might open to >400k admissions!!!! that's sensational given how few shows this movie got (I suppose some theaters switched or even added screens after they saw how popular it is)

In Dollar that should be third highest grossing movie. Did it pass €85M? Than it would be fourth in Euro already still on it's way for third.

It's not updated yet at the all-time chart at InsideKino, that chart's latest update was on 3 January.

The estimates / Prognose incl Sunday are at 7.5m admissions, with a possibility listed to reach 9m as final (???).

German Box Office: 'Star Wars' Becomes Fourth Highest-Grossing Film of All Time

Quote

The Force Awakens earned another $7.3 million (€6.7 million) over the weekend to bring it total gross in Germany to $92.8 million (€85 million).

With the additional take, Star Wars blasts past Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films to take the fourth spot in Germany's all-time box-office standings.

Only James Cameron's Titanic (€126 million) and Avatar (€115 million) and classic 1968 Disney cartoon The Jungle Book (which has grossed the equivalent of €100 million in Germany) remain above it in the charts.

interesting tidbit: Spectre has now overtaken Skyfall in € (won't reach it in admissions though)
