I say since ages:

blockbusters help other movies too (if there was a bit awareness about it or... more than...), it helps to spread the awareness.

I even think they help some of the movies getting released within the next week up to ~ 3-4 weeks per mentioned awareness, see trailer in the right environment, fully focused on them, and:

if someone had a nice experience in a cinema, it might come up as an idea to spend the evening again soon.

Yeah, the German # are sad since a time

At least Lego Movie with a good hold again (-12%). It's probably around 450k, not good but better than one could have feared after OW... May end around 550k, still 58% below Part1 :(

Other than that this is a great WE. And the CM result bodes well for something I could not imagine untill now, A:EG increasing from A:IW...

Third trend is up:

#1 CM 625k (That's quite impressive)

#2 HTTYD3 160k (-17%)

#3 Ostwind 160k (-5%!)

#4 Green Book 150k (-14% and it was up 96% last weekend, with that it should be just like 10k short of a million, so final around 1.4M?)

#5 Escape Room 115k (-2,5%! I can hardly believe that)

#6 Hard Powder 75k

#7 Rate your Date 65k

#8 Alita 50k (-50%)

#9 Lego Movie 2 50k (-12%, that's good but overall disappointing)

# 10 BR 47.5k (-25%, but it also was up 116% last weekend, this movie should approach close to 3.5M in the end)

Also with CM over performing (final total close to 2M?) Disney really should stay ahead for the whole year, especially Endgame, Aladdin and TLK should make that possible.

impressive weekend  - not only CM but also holdovers. In Austria, CM scored nearly 80k admissions, an even better start than in Germany (though, as mentioned, drops tend to be steeper here)

What does 80k means for final gross?

Still no Monday whisper numbers available but that's the official Monday update from insidekino.de:

#1 Captain Marvel: 640k - of course the best start of the year and the best start of a Marvel firstling (followed by GotG with 463k and Black Panther with 415k admissions).
#2 Ostwind: 185k
#3 HtTYD3: 170k and 1.94 M total admissions so far.
#4 Green Book: 150k/1M+ total admissions now.
#5 Escape Room: 115k
Other films with more than 50k admissions are Cold Pursuit (70k), Rate Your Date (65k), The Lego Movie 2 (55k) and Bohemian Rhapsody (52.5k).
Alita and Ralph II could have managed it to reach this mark too.

Went to the new Astor Film Lounge for the first time this weekend, and I have to say I like that kind of approach. There are really two ways that I think work for theaters: lower prices and try to make the money through ancilliary stuff like snacks, or go for the opposite approach and offer high quality seats and tons of service on top of it, at a slightly higher price.

It's great to have a comfortable reclining seat with lots of space in every direction. I was only in the cheaper section ("Parkett"), otherwise there would have even been a footrest as well. Ordering drinks and popcorn at your seat and getting it delivered to you is great. In a way, it probably makes you buy more than you would buy normally ;)

Sadly there were some technical issues with the movie, the sound was missing here and there, which eventually caused them to stop the movie to fix the issue, but they had someone come in right away to explain the problem and to apologize. They also delivered free drinks on top of that, and handed out vouchers after the movie. You really couldn't ask for more than that when such an issue arrives.

The theater probably isn't something you would watch every random movie in, because it does come at quite the price, but if there is a movie you really want to see, it can enhance your entire experience.

Beside here reading new IMAX... still no German IMAX nearby.

Nearest to me would be IMAX Sazburg in Austria (still a long drive for a movie)

Did someone visit it and can say if it is recommendable?

Extremely good opening for Captain Marvel - a PTA >1000 is a rare occasion! Add some extremely good holds and we have an overall very satisfying weekend. Ostwind 4 recovered from the disappointing OW and seems to fall, once more, in the range reserved for those movies. Green Book crosses 1mil total - unexpected for that kind of movie. Plus there's still a very close race going on between Bohemian Rhapsody and Der Junge muss an die frische Luft - exciting times!

Next weekend: Nothing really big but the latest Asterix movie should be well-received; it already had some success with previews this weekend. With a little luck, it might even become #2 for the weekend! Captain Marvel will stay on top and we'll see if it can steer towards a total >2mil.

Bohemian rhapsody has one of the most amazing late legs in recent memory.

I can still remember after the new year holiday, we were still speculating if the film can pass 2.75m admission, and the film passed 3m comfortably. And now, the film is now virtually certain to overtake IW and marching towards 3.5m!

More than one-third of the admission generated after 9th week the film has been in theater!

Thanks to Oscar season!

And MarkG (from InsideKino) believes that the movie will play great during Open Air season. So we might see numbers increasing untill the end of summer ;)

that would be a disappointment ...

Why?

Beside:

I am really liking the movie in a big way (I will rewatch it), still I do not think that a lot of people will rewatch it storywise and for whom it might appeal for which reasons.
