Encanto took the top spot but overall, of course, a depressing weekend. Interesting observation: No release with >100k admissions but 14 with >10k, once more the fact that the Covid- and postCovid-market seems to favor a wide gamut of stuff - less domination by blockbusters, more admissions for small releases.

Next weekend: House of Gucci, Gunpowder Milkshake, a few christmas family releases - nothing big and the overall situation is bound to get worse before it can become better. Don't expect any decent numbers.

some good news though is the fact that the rate % of covid cases seems to be dropping steadily , so thats good like you said it will get worse but not by much problably if the trend continues.Germany covid case arent far from the peak...fingers crossed...

well, parts of Germany are already in lockdown, and booster vaccinations are on the rise, so yes, we should see dropping numbers very soon but I don't know if it will be soon enough to save xmas business for the movies 😕 - I have my doubts. There are some regions where there are few problems but others where I simply don't see the silver lining before xmas.

hm to my knowledge there arent any parts of germany that have lockdowns at least for the vaccinated, anyways fingers grossed at worse some movies might be delays to jan but probably not much more than that.

How much can we expect for FB3? CoG was the biggest film in Germany and had good legs.

Id expect a small decrease from CoG. That film had good legs but overall mixed to negative reception. But there are enough potter-crazy germans to counter that reception a bit i think.

Why did it increase from FB1 and have good legs?

Seeing how the % of infections week to week have started to decline, probably unlikely.

Ok any ow prediction?, i know presales have been slower than other european countries, I hope christmas legs+ decline of infections + lack of competition help the movie

I would argue because the marketing heavily focused here in Germany around Hogwarts and the return of Dumbledore in younger form which in the end ofc was only a small part of the film, but it was enough to get people excited. Plus, the first FB was well-received and found some new fans on DvD/Blu-Ray and streaming plattoforms for sure.

I checked few of Cinemaxx, 6852 in 15 cinemas for Wednesday. May ben 10-11K full chain of 30 cinemas. I am told it covers 8-12% of German box office, so about 80K overall Germany may be in 24 hours for WED alone.

I was told to expect 300K 5-days weekend, but guess its gonna be way over. I can see 150-200K OD TBH on WED for 800-1100k 5 days

Question for anyone who may know…

How many seats does this IMAX have and are they reclining or stadium?

Supposedly it is the biggest IMAX screen in the world. And i live near it. Haven't been to it yet, though.

Some premium seats are reclining, with legrest.

Good opening for House of Gucci, decent holds despite the Covid situation for most of the rest. Depressing opening for Gunpowder Milkshake. Dune has crossed 1,8mil admissions, fine!

Next weekend: Family film Lauras Stern and West Side Story will be the "big" openers - with christmas approaching, expect good holds or maybe even slight increases for family fare. The Covid situation should be about the same as last WE so no big changes in that respect - in Austria, we're still closed, atm they're debating what parts of the economy can open on Monday 13 - of course I hope cinemas will be among the re-openers so they can still prepare for christmas business.

The momentum probably. The exhibtion was in Potsdam close to Berlin for half a year, pretty successful. The 20th anniversary for the first book got celebrated as it came out 1998. And the both things mentioned got featured comparably heavy in marketing campaigns. That was the right time to release it seems. To be honest there is nothing stronger than the Wizarding World brand here. Middle Earth could easily pick up but there is nothing coming out right now. Only Star Wars can match it and Marvel can't (yet)

The first trend:

#1 House of Gucci 120k/322.5k total admissions - a very good hold
#2 Encanto 60k/237.5k
#3 Clifford 32.5k/75k
#4 Lauras Stern 27.5k
#5 NTTD 22.5k/5.902.5M
...
WSS 17.5k - way under the expectation, some members of insidekino said it had almost no marketing, at least there's some hope that the multiplier is good
