Billion sadly seems impossible. In sk it opened to only 30k, thats more than a 100k less than Toystory 4, also the egg score is 90%, very low for an animation movie. Opening buzz in belgium is also quite low.

Β

I love Toystory and hope for the best but I don't think it's looking very good atm :(

Lightyear is not gonna to make billion. Let’’s be realistic since neither DS and JWD can hit the mark comfortably.

Β

A more realistic expectation should be around 450m-500m, which domestic market is pointing to a 70m-80m start and finish total of around of 250m. A rough 50:50 split will give you $500m.

Under 500M WW is more realistic than 1B imo.

Β

DOM: Should it match Deadlines high end of 85M OW, lets give it a 3,3 multi and it gets to 280M. That seems very optimistic to me, but it could happen. More realistic to me would be around 200 - 250M.

OS grosses are very hard to determine. Early numbers seem weak, especially so in South Korea and this weekend it will release in many euopean markets, but we should expect low numbers since weather is so good.

Β

So maybe 250 - 300M OS.

Β

WW: 450 - 550M in my opinion.

Β

Ofc, i would be happy to be wrong but i dont see this movie becoming a big hit, more like a medium-sized one.

Agreeing with everyoneΒ :sadno:

Β

But I will not edit my first post at least till the very end. For now, I guess crossing $500M WW should be great deal of success, considering we are missing Middle East and part of South East Asia (incl. Russia &China)

Oh god, I suddenly realize how much sadness this thread have after reading all these posts...

Β

Variety says $200M budget for this movie. And it may not hit the break-even point from the perspective of traditional business model unless US could exceeded expectations. And I believe it would be very hard for Pixar creative team. They finally get a theatrical thing, but the movie is not received well. And those folks in Disney leadership canΒ put more great Pixar titles on streaming with confidence. I don't know whether it is just bad luck for Pixar or somethingΒ Disney executives were scheming carefully, because all Pixar movies except mediocre oneΒ were sent to streaming in pandemic.

That is why minion’ success is becoming more important than ever to show that they can’t put the blame on theater for not making this profitable.Β
