Purple Minion
If we exclude Onwards and the pandemic releases, the lowest grossing Pixar movie WW is The Good Dinosaur, followed by.... the original Toy Story at $365.2M. Can you image if Buzz makes less than that.

The only thing that might save this from coming in below that is the US - in Germany Good Dinosaur did around 750k admissions and β¬5.3m (according to BOM $5.6m - but I am thinking it should be closer to $6m). I think Lightyear might end up with around 300k admissions (β¬2.8m β $3m), so half of that (that would need a 4.6x - for comp Zoomania did a 5.57x, Good Dinosaur 4.83x, Inside Out 5.46x (recent movies like Encanto are hard to count, it had a 8.2 but only of a 83k weekend (while Good Dinosaur did 156k, Inside Out 642k and Zoomania 690k )) - sequels in the past have done: Frozen 2 4.74x (but that of a gigantic 1430k OWend - in admissions only about 14 % below Endgame and 3 % above TROS, in $ about 38% below Endgame) Incredibles 2 5.21x Toy Story 4 3.79x (902k of a 238k OWend - so pretty bad already). Β So I'd say 300k aren't even assured yet.Β Β (Frozen 2 was really big 6782k admissions (with the 4767k of Frozen, the two have 11549k admissions) , the four Toy Story movies together have 7970k). The sad thing Minions alone had 6945k admissions back in 2015. Edited June 19, 2022 by Taruseth

Actually, Reputation of Talent is fixed. When a film like Your Name reached success. Budget is a increase a bit more to increase the talent cost. But, the problem is that Talent doesn't earn royalties after release (whether film flop or exceed expectations) The ultimate winner will be Distributor (earning 60% of Domestic Gross) &Studio earning (40% of OS gross + remaining Domestic Gross - Budget). Β Outside Miyazaki, no directors have earned Β₯1.0B from theatrical release. Home Media is their only source of income. Β₯88M per 1M DVD sales. Voice Actors earned less than Β₯100K. For Live-action, Β₯200K-Β₯800K. That's why Β₯1.0B is commerical success for any release.Β Β The problem is that Studio recognise your level/power/art only when Disney/Warner Bros knows you. These things upstick the budget. But made commercial losses too. Like The Wind Rises, was at loss even when it's global gross was close to $140M. Though, budget is said to be $35M but still it's at commerical loss, so only Studio knows it's true budget.
