It'll be a pretty calm weekend in Brazil once again, allowing IW, Deadpool 2 and Solo to gain some more additional $....or at least I'd like to say this but the World Cup is coming so..

Isn't JW2 opening this weekend? I really don't know, it's pretty confusing. The official posters and the TV comercials here in Brazil say it's opening on June 21, but there are already many theatres with tickets available for tomorrow, and in some other places (for example the theatre I usually go) you can only buy tickets for June 16 (saturday). I have no idea what's happening, and how the OW is going to be counted.

Well, I visited Adorocinema and they say June 21 so no reason to doubt...Maybe it ws delayed because opening the same week than the World Cup would take visibility from it?

It is in previews starting this weekend 699 theaters.  Officially release next weekend.

Thank you very much :) This gives a better sight of the real increase of the market.

@Fullbuster I don't think FilmeB does a total YTD, but through last weekend, top 10 films YTD:

2018: R$833M

2017: R$820M

Just looking at the top 10 is actually probably not representative of the overall box office, which looks to be down YTD in local currency.

Looks like down about 10% YTD (through last weekend) in local currency.  Will be interesting to see how that develops with some of the blockbusters coming out given the overlap with world cup.

I see, that explains the confusion.

The box office always grew in Brazil this century since 2005 so I expect it to grow again this year. 2017 was the weakest year (+4.7%) but it still was a growing year.

But yeah, a weak economy and political instability seem to affect the box office since last year.

Because of E3 I didn't have time for the updated lists but don't worry, I will start foing it again this weekend.

There's nothing special this weekend in terms of release anyway, the only thing interesting will be to see the Wordl Cup effect on current movies.

The major release of this summer will be The Incredibles 2 that's for sure, the potential is really high for an animated movie!

Especially with the lack of good animated movies this year.  A little bit worried about the schedule

June 21 - JW

28 - Incredibles 2

July 5 - Ant man

July 12 - Hotel Transylvania

A lot back to back (at the same time as world cup).  2014 box office hung in well during world cup (in Brazil)

When the World Cup started it was pretty bad in 2014, but after that the legs were pretty incredible during the weekends following the opening ceremony.

Given the extent of these previews (680+ screens) it's likely we get something :)

Is it restricted due to lack of resources or something else?

I don't know about Adorocinema, there isn't a paywall so it's not even for subscribers or else...Before that you could see admissions week after week from 2010 to these days, precious data...what's the point in doing that? Maybe they thought nobody cared or it's temporary.

However another great source, FilmeB, practically hid everything behind a paywall a while ago.

The brazilian market becoming bigger should give us access to more data but that's the other way around, it's irritating.
