Cookson
Anyone know why BOM doesn’t update international films for Brazil? Godzilla -1 made about 1m here and it could be a big reason we don’t SEE it over 100m worldwide versus knowing it did.

Look up their brazilian weekend rankings, is an absolute disaster.

In the 5th week in a row Aquaman 2 took first place and it really looks like it will beat Black Adam to become the highest grossing DCEU movie since the pandemic. We had great legs for the rest of the list, including Minha Irmã e Eu that became movie no.3 to cross 1 million admissions in 2024. On the other hand, Turma da Mônica Jovem underperformed and had the worst opening of the IP. Expected, all the buzz around this movie have been really negative since announcement and the movie itself is easily the worst of the brand. However this was supposed to kick out 3 other movies, I wonder what will happen to that. Next weekend will release Nosso Lar 2 (Really strong pre-sales for that one), Anyone But You, Anatomy of a Fall, Past Lives and Principe Lu.

Last week it was at R$4.51M, a little more than $910k usd. The run is not totally done yet btw, it just left the top 10 but it is still holding. I don't know how much it made this weekend but last weekend it made R$150k, it can still get to $1M usd.

ThatWaluigiDude
Monday-Wednesday (22-24 january) Mid Week box office: 1) Aquaman 2: R$2.09M/ 127.5k admissions 2) Wish: R$2M/ 130k admissions 3) Minha Irmã e Eu: R$1.98M/ 129.2k admissions 4) Migration: ?????????? 5)Mean Girls: R$920k/ 56.1k admissions 6) Night Swim: R$770k/ 49.2k admissions I got the numbers R$3M+/200k admissions for Migration, I did not report that since I assume it is a mistake, that's way too high. Anyway, in admissions Aquaman 2 fell to third place, a sign that it will probably lose the lead this weekend. I am totally expecting Nosso Lar 2 to take the 1st place based on today, that is some of the strongest opening days I've seen from a brazilian movie even before the pandemic. Sold out screens everywhere. Anyone But You, Anatomy of a Fall and Past Lives looks like are doing pretty strong too. Oh and without warning, Barbie is back to theaters and Poor Things is doing pre-releases in some cities, and Oppenheimer is back too. Award season is now.
ThatWaluigiDude
Nosso Lar 2 opened at 1st on thursday with R$3M and 163.8k admissions, the best opening day for a brazilian movie since 2019, above the first movie's 130k admissions and the best overall for a movie since FNAF. The other brazilian opening, Principe Lu, opened on 7th place with RS400k and 20.3k admissions (40k+ with pre-sales), above the 14k from Os Aventureiros.

Nosso Lar 2 broke records of not just hitting the first place but to have the 6th best opening for a brazilian movie (unadjusted) and to double the opening of the first one. Absolutely a massive achievement for local movies after a tough 4 years. Anyone But You also had a great start. It opened in 5th place on thursday but WoM kicked really soon and it climbed on friday, then again on saturday and again on sunday. Legs will probably be very nice like on USA. Migration have passed 1 million admissions total, Principe Lu despite the opening had a slightly lower opening than the previous Lucas Netto movie (opening so close to Wish and Migration probably was a bad idea). Anatomy of a Fall had also a strong start and had the best averages from this list. Next weekend releases Argylle, Poor Things, When the Evil Lurks, Ernest & Celestine, Gato Galactico e o Feitiço do Tempo and Peppa Pig's Party.

But despite that, fun fact: It was the first weekend this year to finish above the same period from last year. In a really rare event, Anyone But You is up more than 58% compared to the opening weekend, without the need of holidays or increases of the number of screens. On admissions the growth was even more impressive: up 67%+ from the opening weekend. WoM is really really really strong, like I say, the run in Brazil will be special. Nosso Lar 2 passed 1 million admissions, becoming movie no.5 to do it this year and the 2nd brazilian. Reminder: Disney's expectations is to sell 2 millions total. Poor Creatures also overperformed, opening 125% above The Favourite and the 2nd best opening for a Searchlight Pictures filme, losing only to Shape of Water. Meanwhile Argylle opened only on the 7th place, but reviews at least are being more kind than on US so it can have legs, I guess? That was the weekend of Carnaval, usually a very weak weekend for cinemas, and again if the trend continues the weekdays should be stronger than this weekend's numbers. Not surprisingly it was the worst weekend of the year but it was also down from the Carnaval last year, the lack of big releases are starting to hurt. Still, Anyone but You holded great and will pass 1 million admissions in the next couple of days. It already passed Ticket to Paradise. Aquaman 2 should also pass Black Adam soon. Migration also took the chance to come back to life. ThatWaluigiDude
I am not gonna count the pre-sales for Madame Web like I usually do. Too much going on and I don't have the time, I hope you'll understand. But I will tell you it is indeed the worst I've seen from a Marvel movie, worse than The Marvels. The holidays could be deceiving and it could see better walk-ins than usual due to that, but if it reaches the top spot it will be only due to last two weekends being weak and the next one likely being weak too. It just looks bad and funny enough there is far more marketing for One Love than Madame Web.
