Brazil Box Office Thread

Recommended Posts

Yesterday, Twenty One Pilots the Cinema Experience (I didn't knew that was a thing) released in 3rd, The Medium in 4rd, Firestarter in 6th, Dog in 7th and Quatro Amigas Numa Fria in 9th.

Fantastic Beasts 3 had a massive drop, it almost missed the top 10 entirely 😨

Big post incoming, the winter festival took place after two years of absence, all of the big studios were present and it was given several important informations about the future of brazilians and US movies. Hold on to the thread!

Iemanjá was also showed, based on the ubanda divinity. It will also receive a big budget and will be directed by Carlos Saldanha (Ice Age, Rio, Ferdinand). Pretty much will be treated as a super hero movie.

-Universal didn't showed any brazilian movies, but pretty much flexed their entire blockbuster slate, like Minions 2, Jurassic World, Halloween Ends, Nope, The Black Phone, The Beast. Puss in Boots 2 got a slight delay for january.

-Sony confirmed they will distribute Dragon Ball Super Hero in the country. For Lyle Lyle Crocodile, they are right now on a quest to find a big name singer to translate the songs of the movie. I am really eager to know how this will perform over here. Increase or decrease from Broly?

Broly's box office was bonkers, just for that I think is hard not to decrease. But every Dragon Ball movie increased from the last one, who knows maybe it will keep the trend going.

Paramount didn't reported numbers for Top Gun Maverick and there wasn't estimates shared. It's quite possible they are holding to include these numbers to inflate the thursday. Without it, the weekend dropped 55% and Doctor Strange had it's first big fall. Half the list came from new releases but all had bad starts except Twenty One Pilots, that only had screenings on thursday.

From the 5-day "pre-release" and the official release yesterday, Top Gun Maverick have sold 536k tickets for a running total of R$11.8M, from which R$2M came from yesterday.

Comparisons are messed due to this weird launch strategy, but MI: Secret Nation made R$10.5M on its release weekend and MI: Fallout made R$13.1M

What could we realistically expect for it in Brazil?

JW released with R$22M and FK with R$11.5M. I believe we should expect around what Top Gun did this weekend. BTW that franchise is more about the legs than the opening, on the second weekend the first movie almost stayed flat while the second increased. Probably why they are releasing earlier, to give a larger window before Lightyear.

I think FK may have some outside factor affecting its opening. No Way it grow in normal scenario. The opening should have been 20M normally. JWD probably around 20M may be.

According to Deadline: "Brazil opened on 1,847 screens Thursday to $600K, in line with Jurassic World and outperforming Fallen Kingdom (+52%) and Venom 2 (+25%). It is the 5th biggest opening of the pandemic."

With that I welcome to the june and july, or as I like to call, the brazilian box office's Squid Games. For the next two months there will be a new big movie almost every week, that will fist fight each other for every available screening.
