Brazil Box Office Thread

Recommended Posts

August sold a total of 4.9 million tickets, for a box office total of R$91.1M. Minions 2 was the top movie. It was the second worst month of the year, beating only february.

On a positive note, today cinemas are crowded as we haven't seen since july. The last weekend's top 5, the new releases and the movies in previews and low circuit are all doing really well today.

On the holiday, NWH is back to 1st place, the pre-release of Ticket to Paradise got it to 3rd place (3.2 audience score) and The Call (1.9) in 8th.

For yesterday, a much slower day, Ticket increased to 1st, NWH is down to 2nd and The Call to 10th. Despite having the largest circuit of the new releases, Pinocchio didn't chart.

NWH 5 day - R$3.650M

While NWH won the 5-day it did more money in the wednesday than the whole weekend, it was more of a holiday thing. The holiday was really good for all of the movies but it did had a negative effect on the next two days, coming back to normal on saturday. Nope have passed Us and it is now Peele's highest grossing movie in Brazil. Black Phone and Minions keep holding like it's nobody's business.

Next week will be interesting with the Cinema Week. It will release Orphan: First Kill, Moonage Daydream and Uma Pitada de Sorte. Fewer releases so it will be up to the older movies on hold they can hold with the cheaper tickets.

What a fun weekend. All of the movies but two increased and over 2 millions tickets got sold during the period, third best weekend in admissions after the ones DS2 and Love and Thunder opened. The first Orphan sold R$1.56M in it's entire run, the sequel already outsold it big time. It is also the largest horror launch for the year. There is still 3 days left for the Cinema Week and there is a huge chance that Orphan: First Kill will beat the million admissions before thursday.

After the Cinema Week is over, next monday I do plan on going back with a ranking of the whole 7-days with the box office and the admissions for each movie. It might be important for future reference.

There is no way to predict how the holdovers or the new releases will behave next weekend when prices go back to normal, kinda of uncharted territory here. In any case, it releases Woman King, Don't Worry Darling, the re-release of Avatar, Eike: Tudo ou Nada, Book of Pleasures and Acampamento Intergalactico.

10 Spider-Man: No Way Home 209.563 -88.2% 322.000.000 17.680.000

55% drop from last weekend, but surprisingly still solid week. Was expecting much worse from the holdovers, too bad Nope fell hard though. Woman King had a pretty nice marketing campaign and had a decent launch, Darling had a meh first weekend on the other hand.

Next sunday is the first day of elections, notorious bad day for moviegoing. It will release Smile, Duetto, see How They run and The Fall.

25% drop from last weekend, that honestly could've been so much worse given the elections. I feel Woman King would be almost flat from last weekend if it wasn't for it. Despite of it it had a decent hold helped by a strong WoM, and Smile had a good release. Fall also did well considering the low circuit. On thursday Mars One charted on the top 10 for the first time more than one month after it's release.

Next wednesday is Children's Day, why no kids movies released this weekend to take advantage of that is beyond me. A day after it will launch Bros, Bodies Bodies Bodies, Tad the Explorer 3, Amsterdam and Suburbanos.
